Nike Court Royale History

Nike’s core has always revolved around sports; in fact, it is the brand’s foundation and basis in everything they create. Apart from running, before basketball, Nike’s first involvement in the world of sports is in the field of tennis. It was inevitable that the brand would eventually make a collection dedicated solely to the sport and called it Nike Tennis.

Since the beginning, Nike’s roster of tennis players was rebellious in nature and very talented. Legendary athletes like John McEnroe, Andre Agassi, Pete Sampras, Maria Sharapova, Serena Williams, and Roger Federer bagged championship after championship but their individualistic appeal and rebellious spirits changed the nature of the sports, which is still evident to this day.

John McEnroe signed with the brand in 1978. Known for his tough demeanor and passionate attitude, he created his signature line for the brand that includes footwear and apparel reflecting his tremendous talent and rebel-with-a-cause character. The collection featured a red Swoosh and a “Mc” emblem with black and blue checkerboard designed on the shoe. He also designed apparel with black, blue, and red designs, which show McEnroe’s deviation from traditional tennis attire.

This collaboration sparked the reconsideration of strict playing uniform and allowed players to wear regulated but more expressive designs.

Over 40 years after, Nike still is very much involved in the world of tennis. In 2014, the brand decided to change the collection’s name from Nike Tennis to Nike Court. It builds on the DNA of Nike Tennis by incorporating the style of the past with the finest of today’s performance technology.

The latest release of the Nike Court Royale is one of the shoes in the collection that received an overwhelming response from consumers. Its classic and versatile style made it a go-to pair for people who like their shoes comfy and simple.

Nike Court Royale Style

An easygoing sneaker that’s primed for comfort, the Nike Court Royale has a low-key but stylishly classic design. Primed with clean lines and a sleek silhouette, it is a shoe that is inspired by old-school tennis shoes. It comes in different colorways, which makes it great for mixing and matching various looks for several casual occasions. It has all the qualities of a go-to shoe for everyday wear.

The Nike Court Royale’s low-top structure makes it an easy shoe to pair with any length of trousers. The women can pair it with dresses, shorts, skirts, and pants while the gentlemen can choose to pair it with shorts, jeans, or even a casual suit for casual gatherings.

Fit & Sizing

The Nike Court Royale is available in both men and women’s sizes. The gentlemen can choose from sizes 6 to 15 and the ladies can choose from sizes 5 to 12. It generally runs true to size.

The shoe features a traditional lace-up closure. Its padded tongue and collar along with the mesh lining and cushioned footbed contribute to a comfortable and soft feel. The shoe rests on a classic rubber outsole that features a herringbone tread pattern for traction and grip.
