Nike Classic Cortez SE OG History

In 1968, the Corsair was launched as a long distance running sneaker that was designed by Bill Bowerman. After four years, it was reintroduced as an official Nike product and named it Cortez. It features a lightweight sneaker with one-piece foam like midsole with herringbone pattern outsole. The simplicity and the unfussy profile made a remarkable impression to the majority of the masses.

More than 40 years in the market, the Cortez is still demanded by the younger generations. This sneaker has undergone several re-imagining and re-designing over the years. In the modern market, the Cortez is not used as a running sneaker but also as a streetwear.

The comfort of the Cortez lies in its thick rubber midsole. It has an elevated heel to help decrease the injuries, especially the Achilles tendon strains. The popularity of the Cortez was further elevated when it was used by the main character in the award-winning film the Forrest Gump.

The Cortez has seamlessly transitioned from running sneaker to a casual shoe. In 2016, the revival of the Classic Cortez was launched in the market. It has been seen in the street being worn by the younger generation street fashionistas.
