Nike Aqua Sock 360 History

In the late 1980s, Geoff Hollister designed the original Nike Aqua Sock. It features a slip-on design with ingenuous mesh upper and a simple rubber outsole. It was originally designed to have an amphibious function that can be used on the dry land to the ocean floor with the greatest ease.

The Aqua Sock was one of the leading All Condition Gear (ACG) silhouettes in the 80s. A few years after, Nike released counterparts of the original Aqua Sock. Nike released the Aqua Sock Too and Aqua Sock Classic in the 90s. These shoes feature the same silhouette and profile of the original.

Exactly three decades after it was originally released, the Nike Aqua Sock was re-launched. The minimalist slip on footwear is completed with double-layered mesh upper and grippy rubber outsole in a much more modern and defined pattern.

Both Nike and NikeLab released their own versions of the Aqua Sock 360. Nike issued a pair for general release featuring a simple mesh upper. Meanwhile, NikeLab issued a limited edition version of the Nike Aqua Sock 360. Just like the 1989 Nike Aqua Sock Too, the NikeLab Aqua Sock 360 has a thick strap that runs across the midfoot.

Nike Aqua Sock 360 Style

The versatility of the Nike Aqua Sock 360 has been praised by many users. This water-friendly all-purpose footwear was released in subdued colorways. It features a slip on design with sock-like mesh upper for the day long wear. The Swoosh branding found on the foam heel clip and the woven logo on the tab enhance the sporty flair to this casual sneaker. Most users sport their Nike Aqua Sock 360 with their active wear, joggers, short and tees.

Fit & Sizing

The Nike Aqua Sock 360 has an ankle collar with sock-like fit which provides a secure and comfortable fit. The upper is made with two layers of flexible and breathable mesh that hugs the foot completely. It also has the foam heel clip for added support and stability. The Nike Aqua Sock 360 is available in men’s sizes from 6 to 13 US in medium width.

Notable Features

The most notable feature of the Nike Aqua Sock 360 is the presence of three-piece rubber pods on the outsole. These pods have a diagonal traction pattern that improves the traction as well as the flexibility of the shoe. In some colorways, these rubber pods come in various bright colors. Another striking feature is the presence of big Swoosh on the white foam heel clip.

Additional Info

  • The NikeLab division, known to release rare and premium kicks, released their limited edition of the Aqua Sock 360. It features a design similar to the sequel Nike Aqua Sock Too released in 1989. It has a thick strap on the midfoot for foot containment and graphic design on the upper.
  • A heel clip adds a decent amount of hold and support, particularly from a very minimalist and lightweight shoe.
