Nike Air Safari SE History

The Nike Air Safari shoes come from a long line of iconic Air Max sneakers. Introduced in 1987, the shoe didn't exactly do well when it first came out as it was considered by most as bold and wacky. Nevertheless, this all changed after the shoe got featured in Biz Markie's 1988 album.

The brainchild of designer extraordinaire Tinker Hatfield, this sneaker started the wave of lifestyle shoes equipped with performance technology but inclined more on the fashion side. It was inspired by a very unusual source: an ostrich leather couch from a New York luxury furniture store.

Over the years the shoe became a must-have kick for sneaker enthusiasts. And finally in 2018 Nike decided to bring it back. The Nike Air Safari SE casual shoes feature a fusion of various colors and materials with the animal print still taking center stage. It came in two colorways: Flint Grey / White / Brunt Cactus and Monarch / Flax / Mahogany Mink / Yellow Ochre, with the latter being inspired by the 2003 Air Max 1 Atmos collaboration. Moreover, a later color scheme of Emerald Green, Rush Pink, and Team Orange is added to the growing lineup.
