Nike Air Pegasus 83 History
The Nike Pegasus was first released in 1983 with a mission of providing an Air training shoe for every person that is durable and found within an affordable price range. It features the waffle-patterned BRS 1000 rubber outsole and a molded sockliner, which was preferred by world-class runners like Bernard Lagat and Mo Farah. Its name is based on the majestic Greek winged horse named Pegasus that symbolizes swiftness, flexibility, and cushion.

The first Pegasus 83 has a nylon upper with suede leather on the tip, heel counter, and eyestay. It features a very meek design that became a very important for years to come. A sales representative from Europe described the first variation as the “Rainy Day” because of its gray and green colorway.

But the Air Pegasus line has remained authentic to its iconic clean and simple look.
In 1993, to commemorate the 10th anniversary, Nike released the Air OG pack, which is composed of four pairs. Three of them are of the Pegasus variety and the other one is a “USA” variety.
