The Nike Air Max2 CB 94 High is an iconic basketball shoe originally worn by former NBA star Charles Barkley. It is the second release from Barkley’s signature series. It was designed by Tinker Hatfield to match much of Chuck’s playing style.

The Nike Air Force Max CB was the first signature shoe released in the 1993-1994 NBA season when Barkley was with the Phoenix Suns. Though him having a signature shoe is already long overdue, the release was a perfect timing for Barkley because Michael Jordan retired the year prior. However, the shoe did not gain much momentum because the Nike Air Max2 CB 94 High almost immediately followed.

The Air Max2 CB 94 High takes after the first shoe’s design except for the criss-cross Velcro straps at the midfoot and the Swoosh on the lateral side. This shoe model was released in the 1994-1995 NBA Season. It became so popular that it was re-released over three times. The first retro release was in 2003.

Nowadays, Nike have options for heavier athletes. They can choose between the 16th LeBron James signature shoes or the Zoom Kobe 1 Protro for performance wear.

Cushion. The Nike Air Max 2 CB 94 High boasts a full-length polyurethane midsole and a visible Air Max unit at the heel counter. This setup provides lightweight cushioning and impact protection.

Traction. The outsole of the Air Max 2 CB 94 has a modified waffle traction pattern. The tough non-marking outsole rubber grips any court floors well. The outriggers on the lateral side deliver stability upon landing.

Length and Width. The Nike Air Max2 CB 94 High comes in the standard width and length. Based on the feedback of some shoe owners, it runs small and tight because of the elastic bands across the midfoot. They recommend new buyers to either choose a half to full size bigger, or fit the shoe before purchasing.

Lockdown. To keep the foot locked down, the Nike Air Max2 CB 94 High has a speed-lacing system and straight-jacket-style elastic bands. The shoe has a sock-like inner bootie for a daring and comfortable fit.

The Nike Air Max2 CB 94 High is made of tumbled leather with perforations for breathability. The gusseted neoprene and tongue deliver a glove-like fit that is both comfortable and supportive. The heel tab makes it easy to put on and remove the shoe.

The aggressive design of the Nike Air Max2 CB 94 High is meant to contain the sudden bursts of Charles Barkley. This classic signature shoe is best paired with short pants and ankle socks to display the beauty of the straps and the logos. The prestigious “AIR MAX” callout on the tongue makes heads turn with its boldness. The Nike Swoosh is found on the heel and lateral sides.

Famous signature shoes become a thing for fabulous reasons. They do not return in just one or two colorways. Listed below are some of the most famous colorways of the Nike Air Max2 CB 94 High that fascinate shoe collectors up to now:

Black and Varsity Red. The Nike Air Max2 CB 94 High Black/Varsity Red has a black and red base with a white midsole.

Cool Grey. The Cool Grey colorway was first released as a kid’s exclusive. After much anticipation, Nike made it available for adults as well. It is a grey pair with white and orange accents.

Denim. The Denim is a lifestyle colorway of the Nike Air Max2 CB 94 High. The suede upper features denim straps and a white Nike Swoosh and a partly white midsole.

Game Royal. The Game Royal is a blue colorway with a black midsole, tongue, and heel tab. The white accents include the heel branding and the logo on the tongue.

OG. This Nike Air Max2 CB 94 High OG has a black and white upper with royal blue accents on the tongue and outsole.

Pure Purple. The Nike Air Max2 CB 94 High Pure Purple is also called the “Road” edition. This predominantly black colorway features a purple tongue and Air unit. It also has white accents on the upper and midsole, including the white Nike Swoosh.

Varsity Red Rip-Stop. The Varsity Red Rip-Stop colorway is a red pair with white stitching on the upper.

There are also other colorways that make unique references to people and events. The subsections below talk a little bit more about some of these colorways.

Nike Air Max2 CB 94 Amare Stoudemire PE

The Nike Air Max2 CB 94 was modified in 2010 to honor Amare Stoudemire as a member of the Charles Barkley’s Phoenix Suns. The nubuck and tumble leather shoe has a combination of grey and orange, the major colors of the Phoenix Suns.

Nike Air Max2 CB 94 Dream Team

In 2015, the Nike Air Max2 CB 94 pays tribute to the basketball Dream Team of the 1992 Olympics. Charles Barkley was a key member of that team, but while his heroism does not go unacknowledged, the accolades are often not significant enough. With this release, the man gets the honor that he deserves. The Air Max2 CB 94 Dream Team has a blue and white upper with red accents on the tongue and outsole. This colorway was sold out a few days after its release.
