Nike Air Max Graviton History

Aeronautic engineer Frank Rudy teamed up with Nike and conceived a design that could capture and infuse air into the footwear. This model was dubbed as Nike Air Tailwind and made a debt in 1978 during the Honolulu Marathon. Because of its promising performance, Nike unveiled follow-up variations of the Tailwind and eventually formed the subfranchise Air Max lineup.

In 2018, Nike reintroduced the Tailwind through the Nike Air Tailwind 79 variation. This model featured elements that are close to the original model, such as the overall shape, textile underlays, and the waffle pattern on its outsole.

To pay homage to the innovative design of the Tailwind, Nike unveiled another silhouette stirred from it. The brand tagged it as Nike Air Max Graviton, which was much inspired by the Nike Air Max Tailwind 96. This model flaunts bulky looks from the 90s fashion that suits the current fashion trend.
