Nike Air Max 95 Premium History
Displaying the air cushioning technology with an air bubble visible in the back sole was a provocative idea at the time in the late 1980s when designers would have wanted it hidden and smaller for fear that it gets punctured or makes the shoe’s transparent bottom look structurally weak.
From then on, Nike Air Max moved forward successfully more than 30 years later releasing some of the most popular shoe designs from the brand.
Among the Air Max releases that have successfully gained attention was Air Max 95.
The designer behind Air Max 95 was Sergio Lozano, the same creative genius behind other notable Nike shoe releases that included the Shox design, ACG Air Mada, and the Air Max 2003.
Design inspiration for the Air Max 95 came from Lozano picturing out the process of erosion with the earlier sketches of the shoe containing striations that are commonly found in the walls of the Grand Canyon.
He further raised the level of design by introducing a visible air sole unit at the forefoot for maximum cushioning. Another noticeable identity of the Air Max 95 is the neon yellow colorway that helps it become visible when running in the rain or at night.
Further working on things that seem to be unconventional at that time was the introduction of a black outsole with neon yellow accents when a white outsole was the preferred choice all throughout the 1990s. He also worked on a gray colorway that seems to lighten upwards emphasizing on the areas that would often get muddied or dirty when running in the rain.
Soon, after months of piecing together each part, the prototype of the first Air Max 95 is capped with the placement of a small Swoosh logo detailing on the upper back. From its release and upon reaching its production stage the Air Max 95 instantly become a hit with its original $140 price and soon helped Nike Running reclaim its spot as a crowd drawer for the brand which has for years been sidelined by Nike basketball releases.
Now, more than 20 years since it was first released, the Air Max 95 has continued to release exciting colorways as a vintage running shoe that has shifted into a popular lifestyle sneaker for the brand. It became an instant reseller favorite and soon was released again a few years later due to high demand.
Nike Air Max 95 Premium Style
Since its first release, the Nike Air Max 95 has already captured the hearts of those who wanted a sneaker that strays away from the aesthetics of running shoes. The shoe first captured the hearts of the youth patronizing the music culture across the globe from London to New York.
In terms of style, the same generation has been patronizing the style of the Air Max 95 some 20 years after it was released. With new materials being introduced including premium leather and amazing colorways that moved away from the neon yellow color to more mature tones such as black, pink, purple, blue among other amazing colorways.
For the Air Max Premium line among the popular colors include Midnight Fog, Baby Pink, Smokey Blue, Light Bone, and Purple Smoke among other favorites of its most avid followers.
Fit & Sizing
As in most releases from the Air Max line, the Air Max 95 Premium has remained consistent in running true to size. The Nike Air Max 95 features a unique lacing system that includes nylon eyestays to secure the foot in place. The sneaker sizes are available for men and women in medium sizes D or B. Size ranges from US size 6 to 15 for men and US size 5 to 12.
The iconic Nike Air Max 95 has reached its status because it elevated air cushioning from the usual. While the first releases of the Nike Air Max only focused on visibly displaying the air sole unit at the heel back, Nike designer Sergio Lozano further displayed the air sole at the forefront promising a well-cushioned midsole.
The air sole unit, aside from providing a softer and well-cushioned comfort, also promises better shock absorption and a bouncier feel to the foot. The air sole is further supported by a full-length polyurethane midsole that promises outstanding durability, stability and added cushioning.
- Reflective detailing at the heel was added for improved visibility during evening runs.
- Synthetic leather overlays are provided for support and durability while an outsole flex grooves enhance flexibility and a smooth transition.
- Thermoplastic polyurethane or TPU shank enhances arch support and provides footwear stability.
- Celebrities who earlier embraced the Nike Air Max 95 style include Lil Kim, Eminem, and Warren G.
- Other stars who have recently worn Air Max 95 premium include basketball star LeBron James, hip-hop stars T.I., Joe Budden, Jim Jones, Drake, Zayn Malik.
