Bottom line

A great take on the popular classic Air Max 90, the Nike Air Max 90 Pinnacle takes pride in tonal overlays of premium leather materials that give this shoe durable and stylish looks. Still equipped with an air cushioning system and an Air Max heel unit for impact absorption, the shoes are built for everyday use for an all-day comfort for a reasonable $150 per pair.

The comfortable shoe has a removable insole for added customization for those with arch support problems while colorways are fashionable and trendy by matching easily with a variety of clothes. But despite these outstanding qualities, the Nike Air Max 90 Pinnacle as a lifestyle sneaker is not recommended for heavy use such as sports as it can show signs of creasing, peeling and scratching after heavy use such as in high impact sports.

Nike Air Max 90 Pinnacle History

Designed by veteran shoe designer Tinker Hatfield, the first Air Max highlighted air cushioning technology that was once only hidden inside the shoe.

Hatfield, the same creative genius behind the most popular Air Jordans and several other iconic Nike shoes, stressed the Air Max was a revolutionary design in 1987. This is because the running shoe displayed this previously hidden feature to the amazement of many sneaker fans.

Displaying the air bubble in the back sole was then thought as a provocative idea at the time when most shoe designers would have wanted it hidden. Designers wanted then to design the air cushioning unit smaller for fear that it gets punctured or makes the shoe’s transparent bottom look structurally weak.

But finally, Hatfield was able to convince Nike that such fears are nothing compared to the admiration of many sneaker fans to the Air Max silhouette which is now probably one of the most successful designs of the brand.

The Nike Air Max 90, one of the line’s most successful releases and constantly ranking well among its retro shoes, came out three years later in 1990. Also called the Air Max 3, the design is sleek with all elements that seem to fall in place.

But its most distinguishing attribute was its iconic Infrared colorway which was only applied in retro releases several years later. The OG colorway was then the Hypervent Orange which can be recalled as the one worn by six-time Ironman champ Mark Allen.

Several retro iterations and collaborations of the Nike Air Max 90 soon followed in the past 25 years while the brand continues to release the shoe in its OG form continuously due to demand.

The Nike Air Max 90 Pinnacle is one model of the iconic running shoe that has been released in several colorways from 2016 to 2017 continuing the legacy of the OG Nike Air Max 90.
