The upper remains to be sleek as it is composed of leather and short hair suede. The 3M detailing throughout the sneakers’ mudguards is a great addition to the shoe’s style and feature. This rendition of the Nike Air Max 1 is not entirely a sneaker and not wholly a cleat. Although retaining the similar build and cushioning of the Air Max 1, the Nike Air Max 1 Mid Sneakerboot come in an elevated silhouette with rugged updates and features related to a winter cleat. The water-resistant feature of these sneakers is notable. Its upper is composed of waterproof leather and fabric and a Durable Water Repellent (DWR) membrane to ensure that no water can quickly go inside the shoe. The gusseted tongue and elevated sole not only seal its cleat-like appeal but gives protection to the foot as well.
Easily one of the most iconic shoes, the Nike Air Max 1 had to thank the ingenious Tinker Hatfield for its inception. Launched on March 26, 1987, the Air Max 1 revolutionized the sneaker world because of its unique design and remarkable use of the Air-Sole Unit.
The Air-Sole unit has long been a favorite before the conception of the Air Max. This technology was developed by former NASA engineer Frank Rudy, wherein the sneakers replaced the usual sculpted EVA midsole with pressurized gas pouches. What inspired Hatfield in designing the Air Max 1 was the Centre Georges Pompidou, a building in Paris with an exposed structural and design elements and known for its architectural irregularities. This gave the idea to Hatfield to enlarge and expose the air pouches, making it the largest air cushioning units to date.
However, upon presenting the design, the brand thought it was too provocative and looked structurally weak. Upon its launch, it created a resurgence in running wherein Nike was able to capitalize. It took the brand to escalated heights.
Until now, the Nike Air Max 1 has been one of the most popular silhouettes to date, with different variations under its belt, including the Nike Air Max 1 Mid Sneakerboot.
