Nike Air Huarache Light History
The Nike Huarache was designed by Tinker Hatfield and was launched in the early 1990s. It features a design that is way ahead of its time which made the Swoosh hesitant in introducing the shoe to the market. However, several runners clamored for the release of this pair during the test run happened in the early 90s.
The Huarache was introduced as a sneaker that resembles a water-skiing shoe and later on traversed as a running footwear. Nike was able to release various versions of Huarache, and each has the iconic Huarache inner sock.
The very first Huarache released is made of neoprene and spandex sock on the upper that hugs the foot entirely. It also features the Nike Air sole unit and the thermoplastic heel strap for a more comfortable fit. Most reviewers describe the Huarache as an untainted performance kick ever created.
Over the years, numerous variations of the Huarache were released in the market, such as Basketball, Internationalist, Burst, Cross Trainer, Triax, and Racer models. In 1993, the Nike Air Huarache Light was launched in the market as a running kick. This model was listed as #2 in Best Sneakers in 1993 by the Complex website. Because of its odd colorways, it did not receive much warm from consumers during that time.
The Huarache Light features a breathable stretch mesh upper with the unique low-profile outsole. It was re-launched in 2002 with more pleasing colorways.
Nike Air Huarache Light Style

Although molded from a running kick of the 90s, the Nike Air Huarache Light was designed to champion the lifestyle category. The lightweight and breathable mesh upper is accented with synthetic suede overlay to add plush look. Nike also included a unique lacing system that enhances the flair to this casual kick.
With its comfortable and stylish design, the Nike Air Huarache Light can be seen worn by users with their activewear, joggers, skinnies, and even with shorts. Meanwhile, some women opt to pair this with their leggings, dress or skirt to add spunk to their ensemble.
Fit & Sizing
The Nike Air Huarache Light is available in men’s sizes from 6 to 15 and women’s 6 to 10 US in medium width.
