The Nike Air Force 1 debuted in 1982 as the first basketball shoe that features the Nike Air technology in the heel to provide support and cushioning. Bruce Kilgore, its legendary designer, took some DNA from the hiking boots and re-engineered it for the on-court functions. He used a slanted shaft to improve the flexibility and altered the rubber outsole pattern for flexibility and better grip.
