It has proven in its more than 30 years of existence that it is the versatile kicks for clothing as simple as denim jeans and shorts to more upscale khakis for a smart casual look.

For an iconic shoe like the Nike Air Force 1, the technology used from the design to the construction might be a catch several decades back but it is no longer the case these past years. The love for the vintage has drawn many sneaker fans into buying them. After all, it is cannot be dubbed as the world’s most bestselling shoe if it does not have the chops to show off. But tracing back its roots, the Nike Air Force 1 07 High has remained true to its beginnings in the 1980s which are to provide a well-built, tough and highly durable shoe for the basketball court without sacrificing comfort and style.

Probably the star feature of the Nike AF 1 07 High is still the Air Technology in the midsole. Nike utilized for the first time an encapsulated Air bag in the midsole for additional cushioning without adding too much weight to its already considerable frame. Another draw would probably be the premium leather upper which remains classy and plush even up to this day.

The design created by Bruce Kilgore for the Nike Air Force 1 in 1982 was the first ever basketball shoe of the footwear manufacturing giant to use air cushioning technology. The Nike Air Force 1, named after the presidential plane and in honor of the troops, came in low, mid with a connected strap or high-top shoes with a Velcro strap securing the upper.

The shoe has been a favorite among inner-city basketball players hence its popular moniker “Uptowns” and is also popular for both street and professional basketball games. The original Air Force 1 with a high-top model is also among the most coveted as it commands a hefty price in online shoe reseller sites with many sneaker heads valuing them as OG classics.

In terms of design, aside from the inclusion of an Air Sole in the midsole, the outsole was also overhauled to cater to the needs of basketball fans. At the bottom of the newer design, the Nike Air Force 1 07 High replaced the old herringbone pattern into a series of circles that were better-suited for quick and sudden movements in basketball.

Nike stopped the production of this shoe in 1984, but only to bring it back because of popular demand. Since it was reintroduced in the mid-80’s, the Air Force 1 has seen so many variations brought about by Nike’s collaboration with shoe designers and retailers, celebrities, artists and sports stars.

As the first basketball shoe to feature Nike Air cushioning technology, the shoe has attracted numerous celebrities into wearing the shoes including top NBA players in the 1990s like Moses Malone and Charles Barkley and newer cage stars such as Kevin Durant and Lebron James.
