Updates to Newton Tri Racer

  • Newton enters the triathlon fray with the ultra-light Tri Racer. Built for short prints to marathons, the shoe features Newton’s 2nd Generation Action/Reaction technology that will make running more responsive. As the Tri Racer is a minimalist’s dream come true, the dynamic ride should help elite runners lower their personal best times.
  • The Tri Racer is designed with many features that will make the transition to the run leg more convenient and smooth. It has drainage holes to drain water out, a seamless upper for comfortable runs without socks, a perforated back tab for ease of entry and exit, and speed laces for one-hand cinching.
  • Newton’s high-traction lug pattern is also available in this shoe. It gives a nice blend of cushioning and support for minimalists or tri-athletes to compete with the very best.

Newton Tri Racer size and fit

The fit of the Tri Racer is quite rare for a racing flat. It has a snug heel and midfoot that expands to a slightly wider forefoot. The fit gives runners a nice and comfortable wrap while mid-run swelling during marathons can be easily accommodated. Newton offers medium as the available width of this shoe. Sizes are standard with options 6 to 15 for the men’s and 5 to 11 for the women’s.

The outsole uses a very unique pattern that offers both cushioning and support. Newton’s patented 5-lug pattern just beneath the metatarsals absorbs impact and helps propel the runner forward. Fitted in the heel and the forefoot is a high-density rubber for enhanced durability.

The midsole is composed of a standard EVA and the proprietary 2nd Generation Action/Reaction technology. These two elements give the shoe exceptional responsiveness as the lugs in the outsole themselves work to add cushioning duties of the midsole. There are drainage holes in the midsole to let water out and to lessen the risk of blisters from developing.

The upper is a seamless construction of very breathable mesh and very minimal overlays. As the mesh has really large holes, running in really hot climates is literally a breeze with the Tri Racer. Newton also offers runners the chance to use the shoe during nighttime or in low-visibility areas because of the 360-degrees of reflectivity. An ETC Sockliner provides a healthy interior and adds to the plush feel and cushioning. Speed laces allow for a fast and single-hand cinching.
