The lugs are not as noticeable as those on other Newton shoes, and the fact that they extend to the edges on each side is a big design improvement.
This sucker is light and fast, exactly what it was designed to do.
It almost feels like you’re running in a negative drop due to the actuator lugs and it took me several runs to get used to.
The Newton MV gets a positive review. I wish the shoe had a wider toe box and still am mixed about the lugs (almost feels like cheating) but the shoes perform well.
Updates to Newton MV2
- Cadence in the quality of running is part of the features given by the Newton MV2. This running shoe uses technologies that enable the runner to stay as comfortable as possible during their runs, while also getting the support they need for a better performance output. From the upper to the sole unit, this model is packed with proprietary technologies that enable the wearer to run more effectively on the road.
- The upper unit of the Newton MV2 utilizes a mesh material that is very lightweight and breathable. One can even see the holes through which environmental air travels in order to maintain a well-ventilated interior. The shoe laces are slip-proof, thus preventing any unwanted unraveling and marring of the running experience.
- The Ethylene vinyl acetate in the mid-sole has high-rebound properties, so runners are going to get a springy feeling with every step. Forefoot flexibility is heightened via the Met-flex design, which is naturally tuned to the natural bending capability of the joints of the foot. Runners can opt for the 3mm lift in the heel to provide additional comfort and prevent any stress when wearing it for the first time. This add-on is placed underneath the removable sock liner.
- Protection from surface abrasion is provided by the durable carbon rubber in the outsole. It shields the mid-sole from wear and tear. It doesn’t peel off easily, too, so it remains efficient even through multiple uses. The rubber material is also responsible for surface traction, which is important for each run.
Newton MV2 size and fit
The Newton MV2 has a standard running shoe length. The sizes for men and women follows regular measurements, thus allowing a more natural and relaxed fit. The width of this shoe is medium, so it is able to accommodate runners who have medium sized feet. The natural shape of the foot is mimicked by its semi-curved shape, essentially making the fit more comfortable.
The outsole unit of the Newton MV2 uses durable carbon rubber as its protective element. It is placed in areas of the heel and toe which are prone to wear and abrasion, thus preventing damage from affecting the structural integrity of the mid-sole.
The 5-lug pattern in the forefoot area adds traction to the surfaces. They press back in the mid-sole when weight is put upon them, then spring back into place when the weight it removed. So, they are also a means to propel the runner forward.
The mid-sole unit uses high rebound Ethylene vinyl acetate foam. It cushions the foot responsively, making sure that it is safe from impact forces during the landing phase. Its springy nature lifts the foot up with energy and grace.
The Met-flex is a design to enhance forefoot flexibility. It makes the platform more adherent to the natural flexibility of the foot, which is important during the toe-off phase of the gait cycle.
The Action/Reaction™ Technology causes the lugs on the outsole to press into the sole unit when weight is put on them, and then spring back into place like a trampoline when the weight is removed. The quicker bounce-back lets the runner move forward with energy and efficiency. This technology is also used in the midsole of the Newton MV 3 running shoe.
The ETC sock liner adds anti-bacterial support on top of the additional cushioning it delivers. It maintains a clean & a healthy interior environment for the runner.
A 3mm lift can be included, should the runner deem it necessary. Its purpose is to stave off any stress or discomfort when using the Newton MV2 for the first time. It is placed underneath the sock liner and can be removed afterwards.
A highly breathable mesh material is used in the upper unit of the Newton MV2. It has open pores, which allow air to seamlessly enter the shoe to keep the foot cool and dry. A thin, net-like layer is placed above it to prevent dust and debris from infiltrating the interior chamber.
The shoe laces are slip-proof. They do not unravel easily, thus preventing any discomfort during each running session.
