New Balance 520 History
New Balance is a renowned sports brand that manufactures and produces top-quality athletic and lifestyle shoes among others. Founded in 1906 by William J. Riley, the brand’s humble beginnings can be traced to selling arch support products to the market. He partnered up with Arthur Hall, and in 1927, they started manufacturing shoes that cater to the athletes. As years passed by, New Balance was able to establish itself as one of the best shoe brands that produce high-quality products. It particularly left a mark in the running community as a brand that runners easily turn to for tested, performance-based running shoes.
Like other brands such as Adidas, Nike, and Reebok, New Balance eventually expanded its product catalog even more and incorporated lifestyle shoes or sneakers into its product lineup. One of these shoes is the New Balance 520.
The New Balance 520 is one of NB’s classic sneakers which was initially released in the ‘70s. Belonging to the 500 series, it is one of the few models that are not as popular as the other lines.
In 2017, New Balance revived the 520 runners from its archive with a fresh yet retro look for lifestyle use. Utilized are mesh materials on the upper with suede paneling for comfort, durability, and a style that mixes the old with the new. Completed with the signature N on the side panels, the classic upper sits atop the bi-density EVA midsole for plush cushioning and shock absorption. Finishing off the look is the gum rubber outsole for maximum grip and traction.
As the popularity of the New Balance 520 grew, the brand continuously produces several colorways and renditions for the classic retro model. Collaborations were also made involving the NB520. Below are some of the most notable releases of this classic New Balance kick.
