This Naturalizer sneaker is available in a variety of upper materials that depend on the colorway. The upper could be leather, suede, velvet, corduroy, or fabric. Designs for some of the color options are eye-catching, such as snakeskin-like patterns, floral textures, and embroidered fabric. Still, there are modest upper designs that have two-toned colors like the duvet white and silver frost.

Naturalizer’s N5 Contour technology is utilized on the Marianne. This tech showcases dual-density cushioning and arch support on the insole.   Company History

A shoe company was established in St. Louis, Missouri, and was called Bryan, Brown & Company. Named after its founders, Alvin Bryan and George Warren Brown began their shoe business in 1878. Brown and Bryan hired a few skilled cobblers from Rochester, New York that will be designated to the factory in St. Louis, and it caught on quick. On its first year, it garnered a revenue of $110,000. In 1881, the shoe company was incorporated. In 1893, its name was changed to Brown Shoe Company, after some changes in management and ownership.

The Brown Shoe Company had about six hundred factory employees who could potentially make about five thousand pairs of cleats and shoes per day in 1895. By the early 1900s, the company was growing strong, at a rate of around $1 million a year. Unfortunately, during the Great Depression of the 1930s, the Brown Shoe Company struggled to keep costs down, which ultimately resulted in its bankruptcy in 1939.

After a couple of years, the company began its rebirth by opening a manufacturing plant in Tennessee. At this point, it was steadily moving into the direction of shoe retailing. In 2015, the Brown Shoe was renamed to Caleres, and now manages various shoe brands such as Famous Footwear, Dr. Scholls, Ryka, and Naturalizer.

  • So far, the notable colorways for the Naturalizer Marianne are cafe creme metallic (leather), alabaster snake(leather), black floral brocade lace (fabric), black/gold embroidery (fabric), bordo metallic (suede), cream print (leather), pewter snake (leather) and rosewood (suede/leather).
