Our testers deemed the Ascend 8 as a "go anywhere" shoe: well-padded, highly flexible, supportive and ventilated.

This particular model of shoe is made for the outdoor enthusiasts who get their exercise through hiking the nature trails they come across. Outdoor hiking is much different than if the person were to be running on a flat surface, hence the need for a top rated trail shoe that is going to handle the terrain it is being submitted to.

These have a medium fit from heel to toe and run true to size. The firm heel counter and pronounced heel cup keep your foot locked in place.

Love my Mizuno's! This is my second pair! These fit great and are true to size, neutral shoe.

Whilst the Wave Ascend 8's sole appears bulky and aggressive: The upper is much more minimal and streamlined.

The shoe seemed very durable for a lightweight shoe. I run very technical trails and am a fairly heavy runner so I'm hard on shoes. It's held up well on the rocks that I run.

Overall, though, I’m giving the Mizuno Wave Ascend 8 a big smile. Comfy and easy on the feet, I actually used these shoes for a couple of long walks and it fared well there too.

Updates to Mizuno Wave Ascend 8

  • The Mizuno Wave Ascend 8 comes with an updated upper, featuring the x-shaped overlays that deliver lateral support and control. It also comes with a new asymmetrical lacing system that enhances fit without affecting the overall comfort.
  • The midsole was also updated, improving the cushioning of the shoe to deliver a more responsive and resilient ride. The midsole material is a lot lighter as compared to the previous version.
  • The 8th version of the Wave Ascend also comes with an updated x-shaped outsole lugs that enhances traction for varied terrains.

Mizuno Wave Ascend 8 size and fit

Mizuno improves the fit of the previous version. It is comfortably snug from the heel to the forefoot. The Wave Ascend 8 is available in a half size larger than the usual running shoe length. As long as the right size is availed, runners with medium to narrow feet will find the fit very comfortable.

Outsole

The shoe uses the Active X Outsole that features the X-shaped lugs for multi-directional traction and enhanced grip on wet surfaces and varied trail surfaces.

The X10 technology was also extended from the heel to the forefoot to deliver an enhanced traction. The carbon rubber is highly reliable and adds longevity to high wear areas.

Midsole

The updated AP+ Midsole from the previous version delivers a lighter and durable cushioning. It has high energy rebound capacity for a more resilient and responsive ride.

The Wave Ascend 8 uses the Mizuno’s SmoothRide Engineering that promotes foot natural movement for a comfortable rocking-chair motion. It increases flexibility and delivers a more powerful toe-off for an enhanced running experience.

Upper

The Mizuno Wave Ascend 8 features the asymmetrical lacing system that follows the natural shape of the foot for a more comfortable and enhanced fit. This works perfectly with the Active X design that delivers lateral support and snug fit.

The brand’s DynaMotion Fit engineering gives an impressive comfortable fit to runners. As the foot moves, the upper moves together with the foot, freely and comfortably. The flexible material reduces the risk of blisters.
