They feel like boots; they are boots. But yet, when you put them on, they feel like sneakers.
- The Ontario Mid Waterproof is a supportive leather hiker designed to give adventurers a comfy and secure ride in their everyday trail outings. It has two of Merrell’s exclusive technologies: M Select Fresh and M Select Dry. The former deals with odor, while the latter walls off most types of wet elements.
- Underfoot, this shoe promises a combination of protection and cushioning, thanks to its shock absorbent midsole. It also provides enough tenacity on different types of surfaces with its Vibram outsole.
Merrell Ontario Mid Waterproof size and fit
Merrell’s Ontario Mid Waterproof, the ankle-supportive brother of the Ontario Waterproof, is a fairly true-to-size, mid-top day hiking shoe for men and women. It is offered in full and half sizes in standard width. Owners may take full advantage of its lace-up closure to achieve a secure and personalized fit in it.
The Ontario Mid Waterproof is capable of staying glued on a variety of outdoor surfaces come rain or shine thanks to its Vibram Megagrip outsole (also found in Danner’s Mountain 600 and Asolo’s Falcon GV). It has 3-millimeter multi-directional lugs and aggressive treads to give travelers sufficient sticking power over soft- or loose-soiled terrain.
This cleat-type hiker is equipped with a compression-molded midsole made of EVA for underfoot comfort and stability. It comes built at the heel with Air Cushion—a Merrell-owned technology that doubles down on shock absorbency and footing balance. Right on top of it is the Kinetic Fit Base contoured footbed which ups the shoe’s comfort level and gives extra support where needed.
What hugs the foot in the Merrell Ontario Mid Waterproof is the hiker’s almost seamless full-grain leather upper. Its plush interior is lined with breathable mesh. It is built with a bellows tongue whose primary purpose is to keep debris at bay. When it comes to water protection and internal moisture management, on the other hand, wearers have the M Select Dry membrane to thank.
Metal hooks and D-rings make up its set of eyelets. They work hand in hand with the shoe’s synthetic lace in cinching the foot in place.
