Notable Features

As an eco-friendly sneaker, the low-top Merrell Gridway shows off a simple style that does not hurt nature. Its knit upper is entirely made up of recycled yarn. The traditional lace closure is also entirely made up of recycled material. Meanwhile, the removable EVA footbed was built using 50% recycled resources.

As a result, the shoe is a lightweight and stylish wonder that offers a contemporary style with a bit of a classic touch. The collar is elastic, providing extra flexibility for the ankle. There is also a pull tab to quickly put the sneaker on and off.

Merrell branding is found on the midsole, offering a subtle accent. A contrasting leather piece on the heel adds a quirky detail to the otherwise straightforward design.

Merrell Gridway History

In 1981, Merrell was founded by Randy Merrell, Clark Matis, and John Schweizer, initially as a brand of high-performing hiking boots. Randy Merrell was a well-known maker of high-quality custom boots. Matis and Schweizer, two former Rossignol ski company executives, thought he was perfect for what they wanted to produce: a more affordable boot for high performance.

Since then, more categories were added to the brand’s catalog, including Merrell casual sneakers that offer a balance of performance, style, and comfort. Although the brand is mainly known for its hiking and outdoor shoes, it has also been catching up in the lifestyle department by producing fresh kicks for urban use.

One such sneaker is the Merrell Gridway. This model is designed for living off the grid, enabling the wearer to transition between activities in relative comfort. It’s also a notable shoe in that it’s made up of 100% recycled yarn knit on the upper. The rest, including the insole and midsole, is also partly made up of recycled materials. As such, it’s one of today’s trendy and timely eco-friendly sneakers.

As an eco shoe, it’s as reliable as it is comfortable and lightweight. Also, its use of sustainable materials will lead the way for the brand’s eco drive. All in all, this model adds variety and style to the low-top Merrell shoe collection, maintaining the brand’s commitment to the outdoors while satisfying the need for looks and features.
