Merrell Around Town Mid Lace History

Over three decades ago, Randy Merrell started making a name in the shoe industry through his high-quality handmade custom boots for outdoor enthusiasts. His craftsmanship was well-received and even gained the description "the best hiking boots ever made" from the Backpacker Magazine.

In 1981, Clark Matis and John Schweizer, two former executives from a ski company, joined Randy Merrell in forming the Merrell shoe company. The trio began designing and producing more affordable pairs of high-quality and high-performance hiking boots. Though it took them two years before delivering their first product to the market, but the sales reached great heights rapidly.

Despite the company’s growing success, Randy Merrell eventually sold his share and formed a small-scale family business known as the Merrell Foot Lab. He went back to making custom boots and also custom orthotics.

Today, Merrell offers a wide range of footwear products including sneakers for casual use. One of which is the Merrell Around Town Mid Lace. Belonging to the Around Town line, this particular shoe model features a mid-top construction, full grain leather on the upper, and a traditional lace-up closure. It also has a pull tab on the heel for easy wearing.

Merrell Around Town Mid Lace Style

The Merrell Around Town Mid Lace is all about the perfect balance between comfort and style. This mid-top shoe bears full grain leather on the upper that compliments well with jeans, leggings, or even dresses. Ladies that are always on-the-go could wear this for a casual day out, at work, or around town while shopping and running errands.

Fit & Sizing

The Merrell Around Town Mid Lace comes in women sizing ranging from 5 to 11.5 including half sizes and in B Medium width. The mid-top construction provides the necessary ankle support and protection, and the traditional lace-up closure can be adjusted for a lockdown and secure fit. There is an extra tab located on the tongue, which functions to help keep it in place. The fit is true to size for the majority of buyers.

Notable Features

Aside from the mid-top construction with collar height reaching the ankle level, the Merrell Around Town Mid Lace stands out because of its full-grain leather upper. Not only does this feature make the shoe aesthetically pleasing, but it also gives support and comfort to the wearer’s feet.

Another notable feature is the shoe’s pull tab. Unlike the typical pull tabs in sneakers that come in the form of a loop, the pull tab of the Merrell Around Town Mid Lace is unique through an extra leather accent visible on the collar. Also, the first two sets of eyelets from the top have metal rings for added durability.
