Size and fit

This boot by Meindl has a medium height for additional ankle support without restricting mobility. Since it's an all-leather boot, it conforms to the shape of the foot but it needs some breaking in to get a nice, snug fit. The lace-to-toe closure also enables the wearer to adjust the tightness of the forefoot and ankle separately.

Outsole

The Magic Light Trail outsole of Meindl is made of durable rubber material that is highly resistant to abrasion and tearing. It features relatively deep indentations that offer good traction on various surfaces. There is siping on the sides that extend through the edges for added grip. Furthermore, the sole has lugs of varying shapes and sizes to provide support and stability on all kinds of terrain.

Midsole

This shoe has a gray midsole that offers the right amount of cushion and firmness, which is essential in reducing impact and absorbing shock. It also comes with a removable footbed that is made of quality tanned leather and soft foam. Together, the midsole and footbed create a comfortable platform for the foot which helps lessen fatigue during long hikes.

Upper

The Meindl Ohio 2 is a light hiker that suits casual activities around the town. Perhaps the most notable characteristic of the Ohio 2 is its Nubuck leather upper. Everything, from the overlays to the sides and vamp are all made of leather.

While it might be the most expensive material used today in making footwear, leather is also the most durable. It offers a high level of protection against scuffing, abrasion, and tearing. Leather is also naturally resistant to water. However, it's also less breathable which means it could be a little warmer in the summer days. Also, it dries less slowly compared to synthetic uppers.

The shoe interior is lined with soft leather for a comfortable and snug fit. So even if it lacks a waterproof membrane, it still provides some protection against light rain. Completing the upper is a lace-up closure featuring round laces and metal hooks.
