Mad Rock Haywire notable features

-Dubbed by Mad Rock as the softest offering in their lineup, the Haywire combines enhanced comfort and sensitivity in one downturned rock climbing shoe. Its midsole-less construction translates to even more intimacy with the ground and extra flexibility underfoot.

-This rock shoe comes with two technologies exclusive to the brand—FloKnit and Science Friction 3.0. The former is the shoe’s sock-like upper, while the latter its grippy outsole.

Profile

Downturn. The Mad Rock Haywire is a heavily downturned climbing shoe. Its forefoot zone and downward camber are built extra stiff to give wearers a secure and precise purchase on small edges and pockets. Highly downturned kicks like the Haywire are intended for single-pitch problems.

Applications. This aggressive Mad Rock climbing shoe has its utility gravitating towards bouldering and sport climbs. It is capable of scaling vertical faces and overhangs alike. Senders may use it on walls (indoors) and rock-type surfaces (outdoors).

Fit

Mad Rock’s Haywire is a low-cut rock climbing shoe for men. Its lined fabric upper might stretch with use. It has middle-of-the-road asymmetry, which means its confines will force the foot to bend inwardly. Climbers can get a personalized fit in it using the shoe’s hook-and-loop closure.

Performance

Outsole. The Haywire is equipped with a brand-owned outsole called Science Friction 3.0 for sufficient surface traction underfoot. Its thickness, especially around high-wear areas, is set to 5 mm. Its entirety is made of high-quality climbing-grade rubber compound.

Upper

Most of the Haywire’s low-top upper, also known as FloKnit, is made of knit fabric. It comes engineered with a liner, albeit partially—forefoot and heel zone only. Stitched to its heel is a synthetic pull loop for on-and-off assistance. It has enough randing at the midfoot and heel sections to make sideway smears (and similar techniques) as secure as possible. For toe-hooking grip, Mad Rock gave the Haywire a textured forefoot cap, which is actually part of the Science Friction 3.0 outsole. This grippy toe cap also has a cleft design to give the area it covers a little bit of flexibility.

An adjustable hook-and-loop strap is the highlight of the Haywire’s Velcro closure. It works in conjunction with the rock shoe’s highly elastic collar to keep the wearer’s foot in place.
