Good to know
-Named as the Mythos Eco, this shoe for rock climbing is the environmentally friendly version of the known Mythos from La Sportiva. 95% of its components, including the sole, lace, webbing, and tongue padding, are made of recycled materials.
-The shoe’s upper use an eco-friendly Idro-Perwanger leather for balanced comfort and protection. A LaSpoFlex midsole cushions and supports the climber’s foot, while a recycled eco rubber grips and sticks to ground surfaces.
Downturn. The La Sportiva Mythos Eco (men’s and women’s) wears a flat profile. Its moderate asymmetry creates an overall neutral round shape of the shoe, providing comfort and performance.
Applications. La Sportiva markets the Mythos Eco as a rock shoe ideal for use when crack and face climbing. It is also designed to take on big walls.
This La Sportiva rock shoe caters to both male and female climbers. It has an unlined leather upper so buyers should consider stretch when sizing it. Generally, for soft shoes like the Mythos Eco, the brand recommends getting two to three sizes down their usual street size.
The shoe is designed using the RN 25 last, giving it a round toe and medium asymmetry. Thanks to its to-the-toe lacing, climbers can fine-tune the fit as desired.
Midsole. Under the foot, this outdoor La Sportiva rock shoe comes with a 1.1 mm full-length LaSpoFlex midsole. It is a lightweight synthetic fiber laminate that helps prevent unwanted twisting of the foot. It also grants the needed flexibility during ascents.
Outsole. The brand designers use a 4 mm La Sportiva Eco rubber outsole. This material is created by recycling rubber used during the production process without compromising performance.
The upper of the Mythos Eco from La Sportiva employs an unlined Idro-Perwanger leather. This biodegradable material protects the foot against abrasion and rugged rock surfaces. The engineers also added a rubber rand enveloping the base of the upper. This addition heightens the shoe’s durability.
This La Sportiva climbing product has the patented Mythos lacing system. When climbers tighten the fit, the lace that runs through the ankle zone helps eliminate dead spots by securely hugging the heel. A pull tab is placed at the back of the shoe to assist climbers in on and off.
- According to La Sportiva product experts, the rubber used in the sole of the Mythos Eco is made from Vibram scraps that are broken down and revulcanized to create new sheets of rubber.
- The shoe’s laces, webbing and nylon ribbons are crafted from recycled fishing nets and fabric pieces.
- With this innovative sustainability, the brand bagged REI’s 2017 Root Award, giving recognition to the pinnacle of eco-friendly rock shoes.
