Asics dropped the Gel Challenger 12 Clay, a step down to the high-performance Gel Resolutions that’s rich in performance benefits at a low price point. This footgear comes with a lightweight build while allowing recreational players to stay in power on the challenging clay court surface.
This athletic footwear that’s assembled to provide high-level stability is reinforced with a Trusstic shank system to prevent unnecessary foot twisting.
In harmony with the midfoot support, this shoe has a wealth of cushioning properties that help players achieve their desired explosive play while staying protected from impact. At the frontline of defense are the trademark Gel pads positioned at the front and back sections of the Solyte midsole.
The Ortholite sockliner not only helps to wick out moisture but provide added cushioning too, which adds to the overall comfort rewards of this clay footgear.
Offering more life to the shoe is the AHAR (Asics High Abrasion Rubber) rubber unit. This hard-wearing rubber compound is placed in areas prone to wear and tear.
Support. Apart from the Gel tech, another notable feature of this shoe is the Trusstic System, which works as the primary source of support. It mainly serves as a bridge from the midfoot to the heel that inhibits the foot from rotating awkwardly. Aside from offering rear side stability, this tech element also allows forefoot flexibility. With such dual function, this shoe gives the wearer the freedom to be in control of their footwork even on a challenging clay surface.
Cushioning. The central shock-absorbing unit of the Gel Challenger series lies in the proprietary Gel technology. It comes in gel pads which are planted below the ball of the foot and the heel sections of the midsole. It’s the same remarkable tech which is found in the more advanced Gel Resolutions which reduces shock during foot strikes and toe-offs.
For enhanced cushioning coupled with high-wearing properties, the shoe is produced using Solyte. This midsole compound is lighter than the standard Asics EVA and SpEVA.
Adding a gentle cushioning effect is the Ortholite sockliner. It can be detached from the shoe to welcome medical orthotic inserts. A trademark of the ATP Manufacturing LLC, this piece of material helps wick out moisture for a more comfortable in-shoe feel.
Flexibility. Just like the previous iteration, the 12th Asics Gel Challenger profile is structured using the Flexion Fit engineering. This technology makes the upper look sleek and streamlined. Its shell consists of mesh and synthetic overlays that promote breathability, flexibility, and comfort.
Heel protection. The updated collar introduces the PHF (Personal Heel Fit) system that works as an added protection at the back of the foot, thereby lessening the chances of Achilles pain and other heel discomforts. The PHF consists of a dual-layer memory foam attached to the rear collar. It molds to the athlete’s heel forming a personalized fit.
Glove-like fit. The Anti-Gravel tongue promotes a closer fit and prevents dirt and stones from immediately entering the shoe which can undesirably affect one’s clay court performances.
- Aside from the clay version, this 12th series also comes with a multi-surface version named the Asics Gel Challenger 12.
- Clay surfaces can easily leave dirt marks on the shoes. There are environment-friendly wipes which can effectively and conveniently remove dirt after a day on clay.
