    Overall, I’d honestly have to say it’s the best boot I’ve used in its category, and climbs as well as some more expensive models I’ve used.

  • The Icon Plus GTX is a boot built for mountain ascents and high-alpine adventures alike. It has thermal insulation thanks to Gore-Tex’s insulated membrane and a Primaloft-imbued footbed. It is engineered with the Anatomically Directed Design technology (or a.d.d.), giving users extra stability and shock absorption over rugged terrain.
  • This cleat is equipped with a multi-component sole unit for underfoot protection and security. It is primarily made up of a rubberized midsole and a grippy outsole courtesy of Vibram. A shock absorber at the heel, crampon inserts, and a stiff insole with a cushy top layer round out its equation.

Garmont’s Icon Plus GTX is an adequately true-to-size, high-cut mountaineering cleat for men. It is offered in whole and half sizes in regular width. The a.d.d. technology applied to it gives it a spacious toe box and an asymmetric shape that follows the natural contours of the human foot. Its front closure grants users the ability to modify its overall fit.

Surefootedness over mountainous terrain is possible thanks to Vibram’s Mulaz Evo outsole. Heavy-duty lugs (or multi-sided protrusions) are engineered strategically around its surface to provide sufficient traction in almost every direction. The space between these lugs is built wide enough to help the outsole shed gunk and expel water. This sole also has a climbing zone and a concave heel. The former grants extra grip during precision stepping, while the latter provides additional braking power on descents.

Stability and protection underfoot are sourced from the Icon Plus GTX’s dual-density rubber midsole. It comes with a shock-absorbent heel insert and two crampon points (one at the heel and another at the toe). All three are made of polyurethane or PU.

A 2.5 mm microporous layer sits atop a rigid carbon-fiber insole which creates a balance between comfort and rigidity. A cushy footbed (engineered with 200 g of Primaloft insulation) cradles the hiker’s foot.

The Icon Plus GTX’s high-top upper is a combination of Schoeller fabric and 3-dimensional microfiber. Its lower region is wrapped with a rubber rand for durability and abrasion protection. It is built with a heel lock to prevent heel slippage. Garmont designers infused its liner with Gore-Tex’s Insulated Comfort technology, giving the shoe adequate waterproofing and thermal insulation as a result. Its front closure consists of combination eyelets and a webbing lace.

Garmont’s a.d.d. technology is largely made up of the footgear’s differential ankle pads, asymmetrical cuff, anatomical tongue, and precision lacing. Together, these elements enhance the cleat’s ability to provide support, stability, and comfort.
