  • Its glove-like fit was adored through the roof by a handful of users.
  • Some purchasers got their money’s worth with the trail performance of this Meindl footwear.
  • The Meindl Vakuum Ultra’s supportiveness exceeded one reviewer’s expectations.

2 reasons not to buy

  • A couple of dismayed owners reported that the sole detached from the rest of the boot after a year of moderate use.

Bottom line

Liking the Vakuum Ultra is quite easy, especially with its pleasing trail performance. That, and because the boot also has superb comfort and excellent fit in its arsenal. Buyers, however, must take heed of the gear’s flimsy outsole. To sum up, the Meindl Vakuum Ultra’s interesting mix of positives should be enough for people to give it a try. That said, they shouldn’t be faulted if they pass on it just to avoid its setbacks.

  • The Vakuum Ultra belongs to Meindl’s category A/B of boots, making the gear suitable for trail walking and light hiking. Its nubuck leather upper comes engineered with a Gore-Tex membrane, offering ample waterproofing in its stitched-on confines.
  • This boot is imbued with MFS Vakuum, a Meindl-owned technology that wraps the foot in a fit-adaptive foam. Because of this tech, the boot becomes familiarly comfortable to the user.

The Vakuum Ultra is a high-cut day hiking boot for men and women. Its adequately true-to-size fit is intended for individuals with standard-width feet. It comes in a range of full and half sizes. The boot’s quick lacing system and the MFS Vakuum technology work in tandem to give wearers the ability to lock in their desired fit.

Meindl’s Multigrip outsole provides terrain grip in almost every direction thanks to its aggressively lugged and adequately treaded surface. Its forward leaning heel acts like a hook that bites into the ground, granting hikers extra control during descents. Aside from slip resistance, this rubber outsole also provides adequate toe protection, thanks to its sturdy front tip.

When it comes to providing users with cushioning and stability on the trail, it is the Vakuum Ultra’s PU midsole that does most of the heavy lifting. Its heel is extra thick as it comes embedded with a shock-absorbing unit. It gradually tapers towards the forefoot to guide the user during toe offs.

Helping this cushy yet stabilizing component give users comfort underfoot is the boot’s Air-Active Vakuum footbed. It is capable of conforming to the shape of the wearer’s foot and wicking away moisture, thereby granting even more comfort over time.

The Meindl Vakuum Ultra’s protective upper is made of waxed nubuck leather. Its inner liner is Gore-Tex imbued, which means the boot is both amply ventilated and water protected. Perforations are placed around its high-cut collar to contribute to the footwear’s overall breathability. Its closure system allows for quick lace-ups as its metallic hardware features smoothed D-rings and open hooks.
