The Asics Upcourt 3 is built for action. It is constructed with a breathable upper so that the foot doesn’t get too hot while overlays keep the foot securely locked in. The midsole is cushioned for impact reduction. It is also designed to set the heel higher than the forefoot so that the foot is always ready to take the next step.
Another Asics volleyball to consider is the Gel Rocket 9. This trainer has a forefoot Gel element that adds cushioning under the ball of the foot. Like the Upcourt 3, the Gel Rocket 9 features a herringbone tread pattern for traction and a pivot point that reduces stress on the knee during turns. The upper of both models are built quite the same with a combination of mesh and synthetic materials for breathability, comfort, and foothold.
Traction. A gum rubber outsole covers the underside of the Asics Upcourt 3. This compound is sticky, and the multi-directional tread pattern enhances its grip on smooth floors. Under the ball of the foot is a disc. It aims to reduce friction, facilitating smooth twists and turns without hurting the knee.
Flexibility. Flex grooves are found on the forefoot section. These furrows enhance the pliability of the outsole for a smooth toe-off.
Cushioning. Ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) foam is abundantly used in the Upcourt 3. It is the primary midsole layer that absorbs shock from foot landing. The removable EVA sockliner also helps with shock attenuation and comfort, plus it prevents the foot from sliding around. Custom orthotics can replace the insole that comes with this trainer.
Stance. This pair of Asics volleyball shoes features the HG10MM Heel Gradient. This innovation sets the heel 10 mm higher than the toes. It reduces the load on the legs by putting more of the person’s weight on the ball and the toes of the foot, always ready to move.
Breathability. Mesh constitutes the upper of the Upcourt 3. The fabric is not tightly woven, which allows for air to pass through and aerate the interior.
Protection and lockdown. Synthetic overlays wrap the top of this trainer. It protects the mesh from premature tearing, especially in high-wear areas. The sheath forms a panel on either side of the midfoot that integrates with the lacing system. When the laces are tightened, the lateral support is enhanced.
