The Asics Dan Gable Evo is created to embody strength and agility. It uses an upper material that does not easily tear and that is able to deliver proper foothold for steadiness. Its outsole is made of rubber that prevents slipping, allowing users to change directions quickly if needed.
Another Asics model to consider is the Aggressor 4. Like the Dan Gable Evo, it too uses an Ecsaine upper for a proper foothold. The Aggressor 4 uses less suede on its outsole for maximum grip on the mat.
Traction. The Dan Gable Evo features a split outsole construction which means the underside is not made of a one-piece material. This model uses a combination of rubber and suede to deliver the needed traction or slide on the mat. The trainer uses the brand’s Octopod technology, which comprises of strategically placed disks on the rubber sections that act like suctions cups to render maximum grip on the mat. As for the suede, this material reduces traction, allowing wearers to slide their foot when needed.
Cushioning. The trainer lacks a thick midsole unit. Instead, its outsole serves as the shock-absorbing layer of the shoe.
Flexibility. The thin construction of the sole unit is beneficial to wrestlers. It gives them a better feel of the surface they are on and at the same time, it doesn’t hinder the natural movements of the foot.
Protection. Ecsaine makes up the upper of the Asics Dan Gable Evo. This material behaves like natural suede, but it has been engineered to be tougher. Overlays reinforce key areas to prevent premature ripping and it also amplifies the lateral support, especially at the heel.
Breathability. The top material is not breathable. However, the tongue is lined with a mesh fabric that facilitates ventilation of the foot chamber.
Lockdown. A traditional lacing system is found on the midfoot. Users can customize the fit using the shoestrings, but buyers should bear in mind that the fit will be snug because of the sock-like sleeve inside the trainer. This product also features the Lace Garage innovation that keeps the laces tucked during matches.
Fit. The ankle provides wearers a snug fit as the collar and the tongue are lightly padded. The trainer also features the Mono-sock Technology Fit System which delivers a compressed snugness for a reliable foothold.
- The Evo is from Asics’ Dan Gable line of wrestling shoes. Dan Gable is an Olympic Gold medalist who formerly competed in folkstyle and freestyle competitions. He also coached college, Olympic, and world wrestling teams.
