Bottom line

Extraordinary may just be the right word to describe the Ahnu Montara III eVent. Indeed, this footgear is a standout thanks to its adorable aesthetics, A-grade comfort level, and jaw-dropping lightness. It is just unfortunate that the criticism it received—its baggy interior—might be viewed as a real cause for concern by some. Nevertheless, the Montara III eVent shoe by Ahnu has more than enough qualities to be considered quite the capable hiking companion.

  • Part of the collection called Ahnu by Teva, the Montara III eVent is a day hiker that offers a blend of mobility and comfort on rough trails. It proactively prevents stink thanks to the Aegis Antimicrobial Treatment courtesy of Microban.
  • An in-house technology called Ahnu Numentum Hike is applied to this footgear, providing wearers with improved stability and comfort over rugged terrain. It also enhances the gear’s overall underfoot comfort.

The Montara III eVent is a low-cut shoe specially crafted for female day hikers. It has a true-to-size fit, according to Ahnu. It is offered in B – standard width in full and half sizes. Fit management is via the footwear’s ghillie lacing.

A custom Vibram outsole is what’s solely responsible for giving adventurers surefootedness in this Ahnu hiking shoe. As it is based on the Megagrip compound, this hardwearing component gets to produce enough gripping power on both wet and dry surfaces. Its treaded lugs, which are strategically engineered to oppose directionality, only enhance the slip resistance it provides.

The Montara III eVent grants users comfort and stability on the trail thanks to its dual-density EVA midsole with Numentum technology. Ahnu designers gave it a more robust hind region to better absorb shock during heel strikes. Just on top of it is yet another dual-density layer—the removable insole (also made of EVA)—for extra support and cushioning underfoot.

Waterproof nubuck leather and mesh constitute this hiker’s below-the-ankle upper. It has a waterproof membrane from eVent which makes the shoe’s interior water-impregnable and adequately breathable. Both its rear and front ends are engineered with a sturdy overlay to ward off abrasive elements. Around its collar is a lining made of pigskin for additional comfort.

Completing the Montara III eVent’s upper is its closure system. It is made up of a synthetic lace and a combination of closed loops and plated lace holes for eyelets.

  • Those who prefer a more ankle-supportive gear might want to try the Montara III eVent's big sister: the Montara III Boot eVent.
