Been using it for over a year and it still looks and feels great

  • 100 / 100 | Bicycles.net.au | | Level 1 expert

It is not hard to tell that I have really fallen for these shoes, both because of their looks and how well they fit compared to my other cycling shoes. I guess I thought that with performance cycling shoes comfort was secondary, but this doesn’t have to be the case. If only I’d known how comfy a cycling shoe could be – I would have changed years ago.

Overall though, these are excellent shoes. The breathability of their upper parts is great and it’s rare to see road cycling shoes with the BOA closure system at this price point.

  • 98 / 100 | La Velocita | | Level 1 expert

Overall we liked these shoes for the good bang for your buck price point very versatile with great features like the outer hard wearing microfiber upper and Boa closure system which happily will see you through Melbourne winter.

The Fizik R4B is one of the many road cycling shoes offered by the brand. The shoe is developed with the help of leading professional cyclists. It is used by World Tour, Olympic and World Championship participants.

The R4B is carefully designed to offer the perfect blend of power transfer, comfort, lightweight fit, and aerodynamic efficiency. The injected carbon fiber outsole in combination with the signature Fizik cycling insole ensures that power transfer is maximal.

Dynamic energy transfer to the pedal. This shoe’s outsole is crafted from the injected carbon material. It is stiff for excellent power transfer to the bike yet flexible enough for short walks.

Improved aerodynamics. It features curves designed for efficient aerodynamics while riding. It is aimed to help minimize air resistance and avoid what cyclists call “aerodynamic drag.”

The R4B features a three-bolt cleat design. It is directly compatible with all SPD-SL pedal models and Speedplay style cleat engagement pedals. Check out the following pedal models to try: Shimano 105 SPD-SL, Look Keo Classic 3, Speedplay Zero Stainless, and Time Xpresso 15.

Durable and lightweight upper material. Crafted from the Microtex material, the R4B is lighter and more durable than leather. The shoe is hard-wearing enough to withstand the demands of racing without adding any unnecessary weight. It also allows ample flexibility to ensure the rider’s comfort.

Well-ventilated.  Equipped with diamond-shaped laser-cut perforations, the R4B manages temperature very well. It helps ensure your foot will stay cool.

Customizable lockdown fit. The R4B employs the combination of BOA IP1-A dials and micro-straps to provide an excellent fit. The micro-straps secure the upper part of the foot while the BOA closure supports the midfoot up to the upper part. This ultimately provides a smooth, even fit without any pressure points.

Quick on and off and on-the-fly adjustments. Once the wearer figures out the comfortable position of the micro-straps, it doesn’t need to be re-adjusted again. Meanwhile, the BOA dial has a tri-model function: tighten, loosen, and complete release. These three functions could be done with one hand. Hence, adjustment while on the bike is made easy, and the full release function allows quick on and off.

The Fizik R4B is available in both men’s and women’s versions. The ladies’ iteration is designed after the women’s narrower foot shape. The pair’s upper is crafted from the Microtex material that hugs the foot nicely. It utilizes a BOA IP1 dial in conjunction with Micro straps to lock down the foot without causing any unnecessary hotspot.

The Fizik R4B employs the brand’s signature cycling insole design. This type of insole is sculpted and padded for excellent comfort and cushioning while on the bike.

  • Diamond-shaped perforation holes are placed throughout the shoe’s upper for excellent breathability.
  • BOA laces are made from aircraft-grade stainless steel. They are said to be stronger per gram than tank armor.
  • The women’s colorway of white/emerald green is crafted with a matte texture.
  • Branding can be seen on the lateral side of the upper and outsole.
  • The collar and footbed are padded for added comfort.
  • The men’s version is called Fizik R4B UOMO while the women’s version is called Fizik R4B DONNA. Uomo means ‘man’ in Italian, while  Donna means ‘woman.’
