The low-top profile of the Five Ten Freerider Pro is best recommended for all-mountain activities, light downhill settings or for a short walk around town. The shoe provides maximum ankle movement in the situations mentioned. Its main features to offer cyclists are excellent grip and toe protection.

This version is speculated to be a combination of two other Five Ten models. One of them is its predecessor, of course. Rooted from its older sibling with basically the same name, this shoe builds on the original Freerider’s strengths and combines the heavier-duty nature of the Impact DH shoe.

Time-tested grip and durability. The Freerider Pro’s sole is made from Five Ten’s Stealth S1 outsole technology. This innovation is known for its extraordinary grip on various surfaces, especially on the pedal. According to the brand, Stealth S1 has a measure of 64a durometers. It is described as the most versatile rubber compound in their range as it provides a balance of high friction, durability, and cushioning.

These mountain bike shoes employ a flat design. It is compatible with flat pedals such as ACROS A-Flat MD, DMR Vault, Chromag Contact, Nukeproof Neutron EVO, and Crank Brothers Stamp 7. The Freerider Pro provides an excellent grip to the pedals for better power transfer.

For both beginners and experienced cyclists, flat cycling shoes can remove the fear of not being able to plant the foot when needed. It helps avoid slamming to the ground, and riders can focus on honing their skills, knowing they have a faster escape route. The freedom to remove feet from the pedals could entice cyclists to ride on more technically difficult trails.

Weather-resistant and fast-drying. The Freerider Pro’s upper builds on the strong attributes of its predecessor. The synthetic material update promises improved weight, drying time, and protection from the elements.

Superior toe protection. Aside from this shoe’s grip, the second-most praised attribute is the excellent toe protection. This pair’s toe box is padded with Poron foam lining for enhanced protection against impacts. The Poron foam is the same compound found in protective gear that hardens upon impact.

Unique lace eyelets. The shoe is equipped with the traditional lace-up system. It provides a time-tested lockdown fit and classic style. However,  the main attraction lies in the eyelet designs. The lateral side of the eyelets displays a flat design for better lock-in. The medial eyelets consist of two flat bottom eyelets and 4 round top eyelets.

Snug collar fit. The cushioned collars provide a snug fit to avoid heel slips and keep dirt and rocks from entering the shoe.

The Five Ten Freerider Pro features a skate sneaker aesthetic but built with essential cycling features. Hence the fit resembles that of the skate shoe but feels stiffer, heavier, and less permeable. The tongue, collar, and footbed are cushioned to keep the foot encased in softness while navigating through rough trails.

Removable OrthoLite insole. This insole is cushioned for added in-step comfort. It is also detachable which allows purchasers to personalize and swap to their custom orthotics.

Excellent cushioning. The proven comfort of the OrthoLite insole combined with a medium flex compression-molded EVA midsole offers superior cushioning.

The Freerider Pro is an overhauled version of the iconic Freerider shoe. Five Ten’s aim for this updated version is to build on the original Freerider’s strengths and apply them to this model. Strong points such as durability, protection, and grip were enhanced while at the same time reducing bulk and drying time.

This model’s upper is switched to a synthetic material from the former mesh and suede combination. It also features an almost one-piece upper to eliminate bulk. This update provides better water-resistance and durability.

A unique lace eyelet design and an extra lace loop on the tongue are also placed on this shoe for an enhanced adjustable fit. Moreover, the Freerider Pro features the additional Poron foam in the toe box for superior protection.

For the outsole, although both utilize the Stealth S1 technology, the Freerider Pro incorporates a full Dotty tread design versus its ancestor’s partial Dotty tread design. This improves grip and outsole durability.

Style-wise, the Pro exudes a more sleek and modern aesthetic compared to its older sibling’s old school yet classic features. This version is offered in more striking colorways and options. It also lost the reflective feature from its older sibling.

  • Branding is placed throughout the lateral part of the shoe’s upper, tongue, insole, and outsole.
  • Perforation detailing is placed on the shoe’s toe box for added breathability.
  • Two lace loops are strategically placed on the tongue to keep it from sliding to the side.
  • All round eyelets are metal-clad for enhanced durability.
