Size and fit

The Etnies Dory is a men’s shoe with sizes available from US 5 to 14 in D Standard or Medium width, half sizes included. The collar and tongue are slightly padded for a lightweight ride, but overall hold and support are sufficient whether on or off the skateboard. A secure and adjustable fit is made possible, thanks to its lace-up system with five pairs of eyelets and flat cotton laces (which can also be rope-like for some colorways).

Etnies Dory Style

The Etnies Dory men’s shoes are a go-to casual shoe of many for a reason. Like most shoes from the brand, it offers a wide array of colorways so buyers would surely get one that suits his style best. Some colorways like the Etnies Dory black or the Etnies Dory brown offer the most versatility in styling as they go well with basically anything.

Not a typical skate shoe, the men’s Etnies Dory trainers display a boat-shoe inspired design with nautical details throughout. Its low-profile shape is equipped with leather laces around the collar, a borrowed element from boat shoes.

Notable Features

The Dory shoe may come from one of the leading skate shoe brands, but its appearance sure stands out from a sea of performance-based skate shoes of today. What made it unique is its nautical details that come straight out of a boat shoe, where its design inspiration was obviously taken. Its thin collar flaunts a distinguished leather lace that mimics a classic boat shoe.

The Etnies Dory men's trainers also feature a cork-lined Orthilite STI Foam Lite level 1 footbed as it is one of the latest models to join the brand's Buy a Shoe, Plant a Tree reforestation program.

Etnies Dory History

One of today's leading skate shoe brand is Etnies. Founded in France in 1986 initially as "Ethnics," the brand also specializes in apparel and footwear for other extreme sports such as snowboarding, motocross, surfing, and BMX. Three years after its debut, Pierre-Andre Senizergues took over Etnies soon after he retired from playing the sport which made it the first ever skate shoe brand company owned and managed by a professional skateboarder. Currently, the brand is based in Lake Forest, California and a subsidiary of Sole Technology, Inc.

In 2011, Etnies launched its Buy a Shoe, Plant a Tree Program. It is a reforestation program that commenced with an initiative from CEO and Owner Pierre-Andre Senizergues of planting a tree in the Costa Rican rainforest for every pair of the Etnies Jameson 2 Eco shoes sold. In just five years, with the help of program-partner Trees for the Future, the program expanded across three different continents with over a million trees planted.

One of the latest Etnies shoes to join the brand’s Buy a Shoe, Plant a Tree Program is the Etnies Dory low-top shoes. It is a skate shoe that took design inspiration from a classic boat shoe which features a canvas upper, leather-laced collar, lace-up closure, reinforcements on high wear areas, and a cupsole construction. Several renditions of the Etnies Dory include the Etnies Dory SC and the Etnies Dory SMU.
