These shoes are wonderful, and a perfect option for those barefoot-exercise enthusiasts looking for a safe and secure, snug and comfortable option for CrossFit and beyond. They are comfortable, they are breathable, they are durable and stylish. The Minimus 20v7 is a wonderful option for far more than just CrossFit.
- The New Balance Minimus 20 v7 Trainer is an addition to the brand’s minimalist shoe series. It retains most of the technologies used in the previous version such as the REVlite midsole for cushioning and the Vibram outsole that provides traction and durability. The low-profile disposition of the sole unit affords a barefoot-like experience for a more stable feel.
- This model uses a new knit material, made of nylon-infused yarn that delivers protection and lateral support. It has ventilation holes at the vamp that keep the inside fresh. Though this version still sports a molded foam collar, the ribbed design of the Minimus 20 v6 Trainer has been removed.
The New Balance Minimus 20 v7 Trainer is available in both men’s and women’s versions. It is obtainable in US sizes 7 to 18 for men and 5 to 12 for women. According to a New Balance representative, this model features a Performance Fit, which means it has a snug fit to minimize foot slippage during explosive moves. The brand recommends ordering half-a-size bigger than the consumer’s typical New Balance size. As for the width, it comes in D - Medium and 2E - Wide for men, and B - Medium and D - Wide for women.
The New Balance Minimus 20 v7 Trainer employs a one-piece Vibram rubber outsole. This type of rubber is hard-wearing and provides traction on various types of indoor and outdoor surfaces. The compound is also non-marking which means that it does not leave scuff marks on polished floors. This grippy and durable component has also been inherited by the Minimus 40 Trainer, the more recent minimalist shoe from New Balance.
It has three different zones that support different activities. The Lifting Zone is found at the heel and is virtually flat to provide a stable base during weight training. The forefoot features the Power Zone and Toe-off Zone, both densely packed with miniature nubs that enhance traction during plyometrics, running, burpees, and sled pushes. There are also more flex grooves that allow for flexibility in multiple directions.
The midsole of the New Balance Minimus 20 v7 Trainer is made of REVlite. This compound is engineered to deliver the same responsiveness and durability as other foams that are 30% heavier. Though it is lightweight, it still imparts steadiness needed for lifting weights. It also attenuates shock to keep the foot comfortable during plyometrics and sprints.
Inside is a cushioned insole that amplifies the underfoot comfort. It is lined with textile to prevent slippage inside the shoe.
The New Balance Minimus 20 v7 Trainer utilizes an upper material made of supportive nylon-infused yarn. This construction allows it to be supportive and flexible to accommodate foot movements. It also features the Meta support that amplifies the hold during side-to-side movements.
The upper has mesh windows that promote ventilation of the foot chamber. The inside is also lined with breathable fabric that contributes to the aeration of the interior.
The trainer uses a full lace-up closure that allows users to customize the fit. The thin tongue protects the instep from the pressure created by the laces.
The shoe has an asymmetrical collar; the medial part sits higher compared to the lateral side. This design ensures proper ankle mobility and better fit.
