- Adidas is one of the companies that take pride in flagship products that people love for their quality and stylishness. The Ultraboost S&L is an update to one of the brand’s most beloved line, boasting a look that harkens back to the OG model. The changes take the form of suede overlays and reflective coating as highlights.
- The same Boost™ midsole technology is used for the cushioning capacity of this road running shoe. This full-length piece is protected and buttressed by the thermoplastic Torsion System and the layer of Continental™ rubber that graces the base.
The Adidas Ultraboost S&L was constructed using the standard measurements. Runners are welcome to utilize their usual sizing expectations when it comes to getting a pair. However, there have been users who have complained of a loose in-shoe feel. They have even recommended sizing down if the fit is a bit wobbly.
Widthwise, the available option is D – Medium for men. The women’s iteration has the B - Medium option. Low and medium foot dimensions are the ones that are welcome inside this running shoe.
This running shoe’s lasting board has a semi-curved shape that mimics the natural shape of the human foot.
The outsole unit of the Adidas Ultraboost S&L is made of rubber from the Continental™ brand. This layer is meant to protect the midsole from the abrasive nature of the surfaces. It has traction nodes that improve adherence to the ground. The heel and forefoot portions extend like barriers against impact or surface scuffing.
Shallow trenches line the external pad like a grid. These grooves are designed to permit the natural flexing capacity of the foot, thus making the platform adaptable to movement as can be.
The midsole unit of the Adidas Ultraboost S&L is made of Boost™. This licensed technology is derived from amalgamated thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) pellets. The compaction results in a full-length piece that offers long-lasting and responsive cushioning. It has also been touted to be able to absorb the landing forces generated during the foot-strike. Many Adidas series feature Boost™, including, but not limited to, the Pureboost line.
A sockliner is placed on top of the primary cushioning unit. This add-on provides extra oomph to the underfoot experience. It can be removed or replaced with a new one if the runner chooses to do so.
The upper unit of the Adidas Ultraboost S&L uses Primeknit, a material that is touted to be as soft as woven cloth and as form-fitting as a sock. The smooth structure of the interlaced fibers is designed to maintain a non-irritating wrap. A bevy of breathing holes permits environmental air into the interior compartment, thereby ensuring a cool and dry ride.
The sides, the front, and the heel are layered with suede overlays. These stitched-on sheets are meant to bolster the structural integrity of the silhouette, maintaining the upright position of the shoe. They also serve as complementary accouterments that covey the adjustability of the fit-adjustment system. When the shoelaces are manipulated, the overlays follow suit, giving a customized wrap that suits the preferences of the wearer.
Flat laces snake through eyelets at the ends of the side panels. This traditional lacing system tightens and loosens the fit while also making sure to prevent in-shoe wobbling or positional destabilization.
A one-piece opening graces the Ultraboost S&L. This gaping entry-point evokes the feeling of being wrapped by a seamless cover, further emphasizing the sock-like construction of the upper unit. Moreover, the absence of a separate tongue unit staves off the potential for fabric bunching and tongue deviation which, in turn, paves the way for hot spots and chafing.
The inner sleeve is made of a textile that is soft and breathable. The smoothness preserves in-shoe comfort while the small ventilation pores sustain the capacity for air circulation.
A reflective coating is placed on specific areas of the upper. This technology is a safety measure for those who like to run at night; it fundamentally makes the shoe visible when light is reflected upon it.
