Two friends that met at a community college, Damon Way and Ken Block, established DC in the year 1994. Way and Block wanted to create exceptional footwear that would adequately accommodate the needs of skateboarders and other active sports enthusiasts.

DC Shoes uses wide-ranging professional advertisement and are among the first footwear brands to do so. A team of professional skateboarders publicized the brand and went on a world tour in 1997.
