The Evan Smith TX SE is among the DC skateboarding shoes released since the brand was founded by Ken Block and Damon Way in Carlsbad, California in 1994. Initially, DC manufactured footwear specific only for skateboarding and snowboarding. The company was able to reach $7 million in revenue and continued to grow in the next 10 years.

In March 2004, Quicksilver acquired the ownership of DC for $87 million which gave way to the brand to unlock another milestone in reaching a billion dollars in sales.
