In my eyes, it’s a handsome piece of footwear. But it shines best in functionality.

Updates to Danner Raptor 650

  • The design of the Danner Raptor 650 winter hiker is inspired by mountain town life. It comes with PrimaLoft insulation that delivers warmth and Danner Dry for wet element protection.
  • The sole unit of this model is built by Vibram. The SPE midsole is responsible for cushioning. Below it is the Escape outsole that uses the Megagrip formulation for optimal traction.

Danner Raptor 650 size and fit

This boot for winter hiking is available in regular sizes to men and women. It comes in standard and wide for male hikers. As for the ladies, only medium width is offered. Generally, it runs true to size.

This versatile offering from Danner is built on the DPDX last. It maintains the boot’s sleek profile while still delivering ample room for comfort.

The Danner Raptor 650 features the Vibram Escape outsole. Formulated with the Megagrip compound, this unit delivers the grip necessary for dry and wet surfaces. Its triangular lugs are in charge of multidirectional traction while the blocky lugs along the sides are for ground stability. Flex points are strategically placed to provide walking comfort. At the front tip, a small extension of this component can be seen. This serves as extra protection against on-trail obstacles.

Vibram’s SPE midsole is the cushioning unit of the Danner Raptor 650. It grants underfoot comfort and rebound to the user.

Sitting atop the midsole is a removable footbed from Ortholite. Three different densities are used in this component to grant support and cushioning. Made entirely of open-cell polyurethane, it is able to dissipate heat and circulate air.

The Raptor 650 from Danner is calf-high boot made of full grain leather and wool. Danner Dry and 400 grams of PrimaLoft Gold Insulation (a variant for activewear) are built within the boot. The former walls off wet elements while the latter provides enough warmth in snowy environments.

The boot has a flat lace and ten pairs of combination eyelets for fit management. Found at the back of the boot is a pull tab for fast on and off.
