Updates to Danner Mountain 503
- The Mountain 503, hailed by Danner as a true mountain sneaker, is a lightweight piece of hiking gear. Its full-grain and suede leather upper gives the boot a versatile, classic look while providing lasting comfort.
- Danner-exclusive technologies make up the majority of this footwear. For waterproofing, it uses Danner Dry. For terrain grip, it is equipped with the Danner Mountain 503 outsole.
Danner Mountain 503 size and fit
A fairly true-to-size, mid-cut day hiker for men is the Danner Mountain 503. It is built around the DPDX last which gives the footwear a low profile. It is offered in D – standard width in a range of whole and half sizes. The boot’s classic lacing system allows wearers to achieve a personalized fit.
Danner engineers gave the Mountain 503 an in-house rubber outsole for surface traction. Its blocky and x-shaped lugs produce grip whether on city pavements or backcountry trails. Its forefoot extension serves as the boot’s protective toe bumper.
With its chunky build, the Danner Mountain 503’s midsole provides adequate cushioning and stability. It is made of EVA or ethylene-vinyl acetate—a material similar to rubber that is both soft and tough.
Providing support and extra comfort underfoot is the boot’s Ortholite footbed. It is primarily made of open-cell polyurethane, allowing it to circulate and dissipate heat adequately.
The Mountain 503’s full-grain leather upper is crafted with pieces of soft suede to make day hikes as comfortable as possible. Its liner is the proprietary Danner Dry, responsible for walling off wet elements while allowing heat and moisture to escape.
In place of standard eyelets, the Mountain 503 has a set of D-rings and a pair of open hooks—all riveted securely to the upper. The boot’s laces, on the other hand, are synthetic.
