Expert reviews:

After a century-long hiatus, Converse is bringing back the Chuck Taylor All Star into the performance basketball arena.

"It felt like it was the perfect time to relaunch in the basketball space. The collaboration with Nike makes it even more powerful and poetic. The innovation has continued to advance, so the marriage of these two brands is the perfect time for us to give a different generation of consumers access to the brand in a very exciting and interesting way," Converse VP of Global Footwear Russell Brandis explained in an interview.

A modern take on a beloved classic, the All Star Pro BB features Converse's popular single-layer upper and cup sole design combined with Nike's innovative React technology. The upper makes use of a Quadfit mesh for a custom fit and exceptional lockdown while the Nike React cushion provides enhanced comfort and responsiveness.

Who will like the Converse All Star Pro BB? The All Star Pro BB is designed for versatile, do-it-all players. "We built this shoe through the lens of where the game is evolving—that positionless aspect of basketball," Russell Brandis explains. "This is geared for players that have a more fluid style of play."

Cushion. These high-top Converse basketball sneakers are equipped with Nike's React technology.

"The React is one of our highest performing foams. It's very lightweight, responsive, and comfortable. We thought it was a great starting point. We used the React technology drop-in midsole configuration, so the foam is right up against your foot. By doing this, we eliminate the number of layers traditionally present in a footwear construction," Nike VP of Innovation and All Star Pro BB designer Eric Avar explains.

Traction. The Converse All Star Pro BB utilizes a new cup sole design for better traction and added containment.

"We then designed a lightweight, high performance, high traction cup sole, which works in conjunction with the sidewalls of the drop-in midsole to give that support," Avar continues.

Closure. These Converse BB shoes feature an ultra-light high-top cut that provides the support of high but with the mobility of a low. These shoes also feature a traditional tongue and lace-up closure for a customized fit.

Equipped with a modern-day canvas, the All Star Pro BB boasts a Quad-axial woven construction that provides responsive lockdown and dimensional stability. The upper is designed to provide high-impact resistance when making game-changing plays on the hardwood.

"We used Nike’s quad mesh, which is actually featured in a few select performance products like the Nike Adapt BB. It’s a very lightweight material. It has the unique ability to both conform to the anatomy of your foot and then also really lock down to give you support," Avar explains.

Eric Avar did not want to stray from the original style of the Chuck Taylor All Star. “We're really pulling from the purity and simplicity and purposefulness of what that product represented,” he says.

The All Star Pro BB pays homage to the original Chuck with a minimalistic All Star patch at the medial side. An updated star chevron is displayed on the shoe's lateral side.

These high-top Converse BB shoes are available in the following stylish hues:

  • Black/White/Black 'Eclipse'

Converse All Star Pro BB 'Eclipse'

The All Star Pro BB 'Eclipse' colorway celebrates Converse's rich basketball history. The black/white split design serves as a reminder when those were the only two colors of the Chuck Taylor available (1934-1971).

Converse All Star Pro BB 'Nocturnal'

In 1987, Converse pioneered glow-in-the-dark designs for the Chuck Taylor All Star. The Converse All Star Pro BB 'Nocturnal' colorway celebrates the brand's decades-long experimentation with phosphorescence.

Reminiscent of the Nike Zoom Kobe 6's 'Grinch' colorway, these high-top basketball sneakers feature a neon green upper that sits on top of a glow-in-the-dark outsole.
