Size and fit

The SH/FT Outdry Mid is a hiking boot catering to men and women. Its lace-up closure permits optimization of fit. With it’s knit upper, the shoe hugs the foot like a sock.

Columbia’s SH/FT Outdry Mid employs a non-marking rubber outsole. It is formulated to yield durable traction in almost all types of terrain. It has aggressive lugs that have a textured feel and promotes automatic shedding of debris. The smaller, multiple cleats placed at the tip of the fore- and rearfoot assist during ascents and descents. The sole’s upright extension at the front provides an extra amount of trail protection.

This hiking gear from Columbia carries the trademarked SH/FT cushioning. This technology uses soft beads that are embedded in a PU foam, promoting a smooth ride. It also helps improve the hiker’s performance by providing a decent amount of energy return and resiliency

This Columbia hiking boot uses an abrasion-resistant full-knit upper and collar that grants optimal comfort. This fabric is constructed using the OutDry process that makes it waterproof and breathable. There are waterproof leather overlays placed at the mid- to the rearfoot zones that reinforce the boot’s protection against the harsh outdoor elements. A pull tab is attached at the top of the tongue and heel for a convenient on and off.

Columbia SH/FT Outdry Mid care and maintenance

The brand recommends the following tips in caring for Columbia footwear:

  • Regularly clean Columbia hiking boots. If the shoes are damp and covered with mud after use, clean them immediately. Do not store them without removing the stuck dirt. Doing so may damage the materials, weakening the overall integrity of the shoes. Keeping them clean also prevents harming the waterproof linings or membrane.
  • Rinse the shoes under clean tap water. Gently remove mucks using a soft-bristled brush. It is also advisable to pull out the insole and clean it separately. Let the shoes dry naturally. Do not put them in a clothes dryer or leave under the direct hot sunlight.
  • Use a mild dishwashing detergent to remove most stains. However, for oil, grease, and gum, it is best to use isopropyl or denatured alcohol to remove them. Test the alcohol in one part of the shoe first and check out for any discoloration. If there aren’t any, repeat and rub the affected area until the stain disappears, but do not saturate.
  • It is recommended to reapply waterproof finishes as necessary. Owners can use the water drop test to check if their shoes are already in need of reapplication. If the water no longer beads up on the shoe surface, it is time for surface treatment. It is also important to follow the manufacturer’s instructions (in whichever spray products) for effectiveness. Make sure that the shoes are clean and dry before doing this step.

Over time and frequent use, Columbia outsoles may separate from the foam midsole or upper. A simple adhesive solution can resolve this issue. Urethane adhesives are used to coat both sides of the separation. Let it dry. Furthermore, it can be reactivated with a heat source. On the other hand, rubber-based adhesive acts as contact cement. It is applied to both sides of the separation, dried, and is pressed together.
