The Chaco Sierra Waterproof is a sneaker boot that features an outsole equipped with Chacogrip technology for an optimized grip on wet surfaces. It also utilizes Luvseat technology on its footbed for long-lasting comfort and durability, which is supported by certified podiatrists.
Chaco was founded by Mark Paigen in 1989. Paigen created an outdoor sandal that made his feet to dry under the sun without causing wrinkled feet. He aimed to create footwear that can also provide foot support. He made custom sandals with a continuous pull-through strap of synthetic material and a buckle.
At first, Paigen traced the foot on paper before he made a custom pair for $30. After creating shoes in a spare room of his house, he started selling products in a small shop in Glenwood Springs, CO. He also consulted a podiatrist to improve his shoes’ design. Eventually, he named his first sandal as “Z/1” because his friend told him that the sandals were “Zee One!”
Initially, the company’s name was Gecko, but it was later changed to Chaco, which was after the Chaco Culture National Historical Park. In 2009, the brand was procured by Wolverine World Wide company, along with other brands like Merrell and Sperry.
Among the brand’s beautiful shoes is the Chaco Sierra Waterproof. With waterproof construction, it is a high-cut sneaker boot that sports a full-leather grain upper. It has a padded PU footbed that provides excellent cushioning. Its outsole is upgraded with rubber compound and new tread designs for excellent traction on dry and wet surfaces.
