Overall, not many road shoes offer the Road Comp’s versatility, comfort, performance, and relative low weight at this price. It’s even more rare to find a shoe that comes in multiple closures.
The structure of the Road Comp by Scott highlights features such as easy lockdown fit, sufficient power transfer, and comfort. The lockdown fit is provided by a three-piece Velcro design, which makes adjusting, putting on, and taking off a breeze.
The upper support is governed by the combinational use of synthetic Polyutherane and 3D nylon mesh. Down below, co-injected nylon fiberglass soles yield sufficient rigidity for power transfer in every pedal stroke.
Decent power transfer with a little flex. Equipped with a composite sole crafted from nylon and fiberglass, the Scott Road Comp remains comfortable while making sure that no pedaling energy is wasted.
The shoe received a stiffness index rating of 6 out of 10.
Ventilation pockets. Working in conjunction with the upper’s 3D mesh, the soles also feature vent windows to keep the whole foot fresh and comfortable.
Traction. Rubber pads are strategically placed on the heel and toe areas to help keep the rider stay upright in slippery surfaces.
The Scott Road Comp shoe employs a traditional three-bolt road cleat system. It offers enough space for cleat positioning and adjustment for comfortable pedaling.
The following pedals can be paired with this footwear: Look Keo Blade 2 CR, Ritchey WCS Carbon Echelon, and Time Xpresso 8 Pro.
Supportive and breathable. Crafted from a mix of synthetic PU and 3D Air mesh, the Road Comp offers a comfortable fit with plenty of support and airflow that could withstand numerous ride sessions.
Efficient closure. The shoe’s triple Velcro closure design provides fast and effortless adjustments while effectively keeping the foot in place. The top strap governs the top-most part of your instep while the two lower straps are responsible for the medial and forefoot fit.
Moreover, the shoe also features the brand’s Anatomical Centering Strap, which is said to automatically align the top strap with the instep to avoid discomfort and pressure points.
The Scott Road Comp employs the company’s proprietary technology called the Wrap Fit. This innovation features a structural layer of synthetic leather that is known to comfortably hug the foot. When the straps are tightened, the whole upper cinches up like a wrap.
This model utilizes the Ergologic removable insole. The footbed design is engineered to aid in optimal performance and comfort via three technologies: metatarsal pad, arch adjustment, and heel cradle.
The metatarsal pad’s primary function is to help reduce numbness in the forefoot by evenly distributing pressure. The arch adjustment guides the foot and allows for correct foot alignment and adjusts it depending on the individual arch level. Lastly, the heel cradle keeps the rear foot in place and is designed to properly align the ankle during the pedaling motions.
