- The Salomon X Ultra Mid 2 Spikes GTX has a very similar style and design with the earlier model - Salomon X Ultra Mid Winter. However, the Ultra Mid 2 Spikes GTX packs plenty of advanced features, such as the carbide tipped spikes in the sole for added grip and traction, the lightweight Advanced Chassis™ for motion control, and a GORE-tex membrane for waterproofing.

Designed for men and women who enjoy winter hiking, the X Ultra Mid 2 Spikes GTX boots are equipped with the SensiFit™ system that wraps the foot, giving it a secure, snug, and virtually custom fit. They also feature a traditional lacing system with eyelets for easy adjustment.
These Salomon boots are constructed with Contagrip® W outsoles that are specifically designed for climbing, hiking, and trail running. This outsole technology combines three major components - density, compound, and geometry. Highly durable rubber of varying densities makes up the outsole while the aggressive lug pattern ensures grippy performance on the trail.
What makes the X Ultra Mid 2 Spikes GTX outsole unique are the Carbide tipped spikes inserted into the sole lugs. There are nine of these metal studs strategically placed all over the sole lugs for increased traction on ice and other slippery surfaces.
The injected EVA midsole makes for a lighter and thinner shoe. It’s also more flexible and has better shock absorption properties than compressed EVA midsoles. EVA is a type of synthetic foam that delivers a more efficient response and works with all layers to reduce fatigue (which is a common scenario after hours of hiking or trail running).
An advanced chassis and shank are inserted between the midsole and outsole. The chassis aids in motion control and energy management, helping the wearer create an efficient, stable, and responsive stride. Meanwhile, the shank boosts torsional rigidity and stability.
Lastly, the boot comes with an Ortholite sockliner for cushion and moisture management.
The boot upper is made with textile and leather materials which all have water-repelling qualities. The insides are lined with GORE-tex membrane which is 100% waterproof but less breathable.
A polyurethane-coated leather covers the major areas of the upper to protect the shoe from the elements and make it last longer. It also has a gusseted tongue to keep the debris out.
Completing the upper is a traditional lacing system with thick metal eyelets for a more secure fit.
