- The Salomon X Radiant Mid GTX is a mid-top boot for day hiking adventures. A Gore-Tex membrane lines the gear’s polyurethane (PU) coated leather and mesh upper, making it waterproof.
- A cushioned and stabilized ride is achieved through the EnergyCell midsole made of ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) foam. The Contagrip MD’s multi-lugged profile gives adequate traction suited for rugged terrains.
The Salomon X Radiant Mid GTX comes in standard width for male and female outdoor enthusiasts. The hiking boot’s closure system works with the brand’s Sensifit technology to bestow wearers with a personalized and secure lockdown. It also runs generally true to size.
This hiking boot from Salomon uses the brand’s patented Contagrip MD outsole. It’s made of a durable rubber compound which grants long-term wear resistance. The sole’s profile features a pattern of aggressive lugs which renders multi-directional traction on virtually all types of surfaces. Its front section extends towards the toe box for extra protection against accidental bumps.
Providing outdoor enthusiasts with ample balance on challenging terrain is the Salomon X Radiant Mid GTX’s Energycell midsole. It’s made of lightweight EVA foam which delivers cushioning, energy return, and shock reduction. This component is paired with an Ortholite insole for improved arch support and underfoot comfort.
The men's and women's Salomon X Radiant Mid GTX’s mid-cut upper is made of PU-coated leather and mesh fabric. It is lined with a Gore-Tex membrane (a component also found in the Quest 4D 3 GTX) to prevent water from entering the gear while maintaining breathability. A robust rubber cap is positioned on its forefoot area to amplify durability.
This Salomon product uses a series of eyelets and metal hooks for its closure system. Debris is prevented from entering the footgear via its gusseted tongue. A pull tab is positioned at the back to permit an easy on and off. Moreover, the collar contains several perforations to improve breathability.
Both the X Radiant Mid GTX and the Moab 2 Mid GTX are designed for single-day trips. These mid-top offerings from Salomon and Merrell, respectively, are equipped with waterproof uppers, cushy midsole components, and grippy outsoles to help hikers perform in challenging environments. Shown below are some of the key elements in which these products differ.
Upper. The Merrell Moab 2 Mid GTX uses an upper made of synthetic leather and mesh fabric. These materials imbue the footgear with lightness and abrasion resistance. A Gore-Tex Extended Comfort laminate is integrated into the upper to prevent water from entering. A toe cap sits on the forefoot area for added protection from various trail hazards. Meanwhile, the Salomon X Radiant Mid GTX’s PU-coated leather upper sports fewer ventilation ports than the Moab 2 Mid GTX, making the latter more suitable for warm environments.
Midsole. Merrell furnished the Moab 2 Mid GTX with an EVA midsole and a patented Air Cushion in the heel area to render a cushioned ride on uneven terrain. It also incorporates a molded nylon shank to give underfoot support and structure. Its M. Select Fit.Eco footbed grants extra comfort and arch support. These components make the Merrell Moab 2 Mid GTX more rigid than the Salomon X Radiant Mid GTX, which comes with an EnergyCell EVA midsole and an Ortholite footbed.
Fit. The Merrell Moab 2 Mid GTX and Salomon X Radiant Mid GTX are both designed for male and female adventurers. They come with conventional lacing systems, which enable wearers to achieve a personalized lockdown. The Salomon offering, meanwhile, is equipped with a trademarked Sensifit technology, which cradles the foot and gives it a more precise fit.
Weight. The men’s Moab 2 Mid GTX weighs 468g while its women’s version has a weight of 405g. The Salomon X Radiant weighs 405g and 350g for male and female hikers, respectively, making it lighter.
