The Meindl Jorasse GTX is a superb general winter hillwalking boot that is lighter than some, but also very slightly less precise during foot placement.
- The Meindl Jorasse GTX is designed for taking on mountainous terrain, whether rocky or covered in ice. Its overall construction puts in under Meindl’s category C of boots, giving it a firmer support system and stiffer soles—ideal for technical climbs. It is compatible with semi-automatic crampons.
- Its over-the-ankle upper is made with a combination of microfiber and mesh fabric. Its liner is engineered with a Gore-Tex membrane, giving the boot adequate protection from wet elements.
Meindl’s Jorasse GTX is a high-cut mountaineering boot for men and women. It offers a generally true-to-size fit for individuals with regular feet. It comes in full and half sizes. The boot’s Digafix lacing system provides a supportive kind of foot lockdown.
Mountaineers have the Jorasse GTX’s Vibram outsole to thank for preventing them from slipping over rocky surfaces. Called Multigrip 3 Alpin, this Meindl-exclusive outsole is made extra rigid for lasting durability. It has high-profile lugs and a hooked heel to help climbers gain a secure footing on steep, craggy terrain.
A midsole made of polyurethane is what provides wearers with adequate cushioning underfoot and the ability to remain stable on unforgiving surfaces. Its rear end is engineered with a sturdy welt to which the heel lever of semi-automatic bindings may be attached.
Offering extra cushioning is the proprietary insole by Meindl, called Air-Active Soft Print Drysole. This removable footbed dries quickly. It also has its own moisture management system.
The Meindl Jorasse GTX’s high-cut upper is part microfiber, part lightweight mesh. Its entire base region has a rubber overlay (a.k.a rubber rand) to reinforce the boot further and give it proper abrasion protection. Its ankle cuff and tongue are generously padded for added comfort. For water protection, its main liner has been imbued with Gore-Tex’s waterproof membrane. This waterproofing technology is also breathable, actively eliminating sweat and moisture for a drier mountaineering experience.
Giving users a secure fit is the boot’s Digafix lacing system which consists of riveted metallic eyelets and synthetic laces. Offering on and off assistance, on the other hand, is the extra-long pull tab on the back of the upper’s collar.
