BAPE x Asics Gel Kayano Trainer History
Asics has been faithful in offering footwear, apparels, and accessories which cater the broad range of consumers. They dedicated their brand to providing products that promote harmonious body and mind.
It has been developing various technologies to accommodate the persistent changing needs of consumers. One of the many technologies Asics created is the Gel cushioning system, which helps the wearer to perform better. The Gel cushioning system provides support by absorbing the impact with each stride.
The first shoe that used the Gel cushioning is the Gel Trendy which was released in 1990. And in 1993, the Gel-Kayano was launched using the Gel tech but with a futuristic design. The design was inspired by a beetle’s exoskeleton with a hornlike sole and a Coolmax-lined mesh upper. It has Gel cushioning placed on the rearfoot and forefoot.
Meanwhile, the Bathing Ape or BAPE is a Japanese brand that specializes in men’s, women’s and children’s casual wear. It was founded by Nigo in 1993, and currently, the brand has several stores across Japan, Hong Kong, New York, London, Taipei, China, Bangkok, and Singapore.
In 2015, Asics collaborated with the BAPE and launched a camouflage pack, consisting of two classic Asics pairs. One of the shoes is the Gel Kayano Trainer which displays a tan-based camo in brown suede panels and pink rubber outsole. It has BAPE logo on the heel and insole.
BAPE x Asics Gel Kayano Trainer Style
The low-top BAPE x Asics Gel Kayano Trainer displays a desert camouflage print on the upper with suede panels. It also reveals pink sole which adds a pop of color to this neutrally colored footwear. The classic silhouette with modernized elements makes this shoe a suitable pair for the casual styling. Most wearers can be seen sporting this kick with joggers, shorts and even with skinnies.
Fit & Sizing
The BAPE x Asics Gel Kayano Trainer is available exclusively in men’s sizes from 4 to 13 in medium width. It displays a traditional lace-up closure for a comfortable fit. This sneaker runs true to size.
The camouflage makeover of the Asics Gel Kayano Trainer gives this pair a striking feature. It displays a modernized design in a classic silhouette. Another noteworthy feature is the pink rubber sole on the heel and toe which adds contrast to this military-inspired design.
- The EVA midsole of the BAPE x Asics Gel Kayano Trainer delivers support and optimum responsive cushioning.
- Its durable rubber outsole provides superb traction.
- Another shoe that is included in the BAPE x Asics collaboration is the Gel-Lyte V that displays a black and grey camouflage with reflective accents all over the sneaker.
