The Nike Zoom Venomenon 5 is the fifth iteration of Kobe’s takedown shoe models. The Venomenon series is meant to provide more durable versions of the main signature shoes. The Venomenons, therefore, are fit for outdoor play; but they are sold at almost half the price.
The Venomenon 5s feature a Hyperfuse upper that is complete with dynamic Flywire in the forefoot and a TPU heel counter, a Zoom Air and Phylon combo in the midsole, and a translucent rubber in the outsole.
Cushion. The Nike Zoom Venomenon 5 uses two Zoom Air units: one at the forefoot and another at the heel. These units, which are embedded in the Phylon midsole, are bottom-loaded and can be seen through the translucent outsole.
Traction. The shoe features a multidirectional herringbone with organic wave-like patterns. Although an outdoor model, the translucent rubber will definitely last longer indoors.
Length and Width. Although going true to size is the way to go, the forefoot area will feel a little tight. For wide-footers, it is best to try on the shoe in your local shoe store before purchasing.
Lockdown. A comfortable fit is ensured by three features: the shoe's enveloping Hyperfuse upper, the dynamic Flywire, and the large TPU heel cup.
The heel cup provides containment so secure that it removes all possibilities of side-to-side heel movements. The Flywire takes care of the forefoot, while the mesh upper ensures the overall lockdown.
Hyperfuse is utilized as the Venomenon 5’s main upper material. It is a combination of synthetic materials layered together to provide superior support but with a ton of ventilation. Since the lace loops and toe rand are high-wear areas, they are overlaid with fuse to make them more durable. The shoe also has a a TPU heel cup and dynamic Flywire at the forefoot.
As for the midsole, it is made of the usual Phylon foam and Zoom Air tandem. The outsole is made of a translucent, sticky, and pliable rubber compound.
Pretty much like the other low-tops in Kobe’s line, the Venomenon 5 plays with a variety of textures such as the molded TPU heel cup, the flowy compression marks on the midsole, and the detailing on the tongue that puts Kobe’s logo center stage.
The shoe has been released in more than ten colorways ever since its debut in 2015. Unlike other basketball shoes, the Venomenon 5 usually features color combinations rather than neat monochromatic displays.
Nike Zoom Venomenon 5 Joker
Inspired by Batman’s arch nemesis, the Joker is also a colorway applied to the Kobe 5 shoe. The Joker colorway comes in a predominantly black upper and a purple tongue, while the midsole and Flywires are electric lime colored.
Nike Zoom Venomenon 5 Lakers
As a tribute to Bryant’s one and only Los Angeles Lakers team, the Lakers colorway comes in a dark purple upper, white midsole, transparent icy blue outsole, and gold detailings.
