- For mixed climbing adventures and other challenging expeditions, Lowa introduces the Alpine Ice GTX. This high-cut mountaineering boot features an abrasion-resistant integrated gaiter with zip-up closure. Its inner linings are Gore-tex and Primaloft. The former makes it waterproof and breathable. The latter keeps the boot insulated.
- The boot’s cushioning is brought by the DuraPU midsole and an anatomically shaped insole. These features sit atop the Vibram outsole which renders traction on virtually all types of terrain.
The Lowa Alpine Ice GTX is a unisex mountaineering boot. It comes in D width (standard) and regular sizes. According to Lowa's size chart, women are advised to get a half size down to get the right fit. The brand adapted their Slingshot technology to this footgear for a secure heel fit. Also, it fairly runs true to size. The Fit Ribbon lacing system helps users to obtain a personalized and snug fit.
The Vibram Alp Trac Ice has multiple features that enable the boot to tackle snowy, rocky and loose trails. The large contact surface at the toe (also called climbing zone) and heel help secure foothold on grounds. Its lugs have a medium depth which enables it to shed accumulated dirt and mud, reducing the risk of slipping.
This crampon-ready outsole is also equipped with the close-to-the-ground and close-to-the-rock technologies from Lowa. The former reduces platform height for safety while the latter helps increase outdoor sensitivity.
Featuring the DuraPU midsole, the Alpine Ice GTX provides cushioning and rebound on the trails. It works with Lowa's Hard Shank (a type of joint created by the brand) that is also integrated with a heel cushioning. This setup maximizes comfort and support. The insole is wrapped in PU foam which conforms to the shape of the foot, providing natural arch support.
The Lowa Alpine Ice GTX has an integrated gaiter which uses a waterproof zipper for closure. Aside from shielding the foot against snow and water intrusions, these two also render protection from freezing temperatures. Additionally, the feature Fit Ribbon is a minimalist lacing system used internally for a more secure foot lockdown.
The inside is lined with a Gore-Tex membrane which handles breathability and waterproofing. It helps keep the foot dry and fresh. The Primaloft 400, on the other hand, is a synthetic insulation also installed in the boot. It retains heat in wintry conditions, for a warmer and comfier environment.
On the exterior, the Alpine Ice GTX is wrapped along the sides by a high wall rubber rand. It adds durability and protection on the trails.
- This boot is compatible with step-in crampons.
