A relatively new brand in the cycling industry, Ion has released several footwear models to offer its market. One of them is the Ion Raid II. This shoe is the successor of the highly commended Ion Raid Amp and Ion Raid Amp II.
- The Raid II features a new outsole recipe from the brand that’s made from the combination of a new rubber compound and a softer EVA midsole. As a result, it provides incredible pedal feel and grip.
- The shoe’s upper is designed with an asymmetrical medial ankle collar for protection against ankle strikes.
- Finally, the reinforced toe box and heel protect the foot from impacts.
Excellent grip. Sporting the brand’s proprietary Pin Tonic Sole Concept, this shoe’s outsole is engineered for grip and comfort. This technology is made up of a mixture between a new rubber compound and soft EVA midsole.
The toe and heel areas are equipped with specially designed lug patterns for maximum traction while off the bike.
Adequate rigidity. This shoe’s outsole is designed with two different components: stiff longitudinal axis and slightly flexible lateral axis. This composition provides sufficient stiffness for power transmission while maintaining a level of flex for walking and prevention of foot tilting while pedaling.
The Ion Raid II is a flat MTB shoe. It is compatible with the following pedal models: OneUp Composite Pedal, Crank Brother Stamp 3, and Race Face Chester.
Ankle protection. With asymmetrical medial shafts, the wearer’s ankles are protected from inevitable bumps against the bike.
Toe protection and anti-heel slip design. The shoe’s toe area features the brand’s ToeTal technology, which employs a pre-shaped reinforced toe box to keep the foot protected from impacts.
In the rear area, the heels have also been pre-shaped to prevent heel slips and keep the foot in place.
Time-tested closure. The Ion Raid II employs the traditional lace-up closure system. This provides a lockdown fit without any hotspots.
This pair utilizes molded EVA insoles to provide enhanced support and in-step comfort.
